General Questions

Hello, I've searched to try and find a way of mapping a button so that when and if xbmc freezes I can push this button and it runs killall -9 xbmc.bin. However what I have found doesn't seem to work. I am running xbmc as a desktop so it boots straight into it. I created a script which is just the command mentioned above and made it executable. When I'm on the desktop and run it, it works. but when I reboot and go to xbmc it will not work. Can someone who has done this can give a quick tutorial on how to make this work it be much appreciated. Thanks.

Help I need step by step instructions on how to use the FLIRC. Where I am so far, bought the FLIRC open the package and it says to go to the website for the free software, so I download the software, no instruction to be found any place, I assume since this plugs into the USB I plugged it into my computers USB port. I see in the GUI release there is a 1.2.7 RC12. My Question, I currently have the following. Firmware Version 3.0 GUI 1.2.7 +based on qt 4.8.0 is this a RC release of 4.8 set? I received my FLIRC from Amazon.co.uk and the USB plug was bent. I received a replacement today and it was also bent! Is this how they are made or these are from a bad batch? Thanks in advance.

Unbricked by manually installing booloader from device manager. Your software shouldn't lock itself out of your device.

Hi, today i received my new Flirc from Amazon. Yeah!!! :D But the big disappointment appears right after plugging the Dongle into the HTPC-Box. :mellow: I'm not able to pair my own Keys, because Flirc-GUI pairs the keys itself!!! When i press the virtual key, e.g. '1' at the GUI, the key is immediately paired (i didn't press any key on the RC (-> One for All URC 7562)!). I tried this on a Linux and a Windows Box, the issue persists. After the unwanted pairing the virtual Key flickers green, just like the RC fires '1' rapidly. I've had my flirc for around 3 years, never had a problem. Recently I was getting false triggers from what I assume to be some new lights. In the process of troubleshooting I installed the latest flirc version and it updated the firmware on my flirc from version 1 to 3. I was able to fix the false triggers eventually by erasing the flirc and experimenting with remote commands that didnt get false triggered. The firmware version did not help however and ever since the update my flirc becomes unresponsive every day or two and I have to unplug it and plug it back in. I would love to just revert back to an earlier version (I know firmware 1.0 worked fine) but I cant find…

Does anyone have any ideas why I am unable to sign in to the forums with Firefox? My ID and password seem to work fine with Chrome and Internet Explorer and Safari. Firefox shows no cookies for flirc.tv And no, telling me not to use Firefox is not the answer I'm looking for.

Hi, I've been having difficulty using the Flirc usb receiver on my Raspbmc/XBMC setup. I have plugged it in but it does not seem to be detected, the Flirc addon does not detect the device. Previously I was using it in an identical Openelec setup and it was working perfectly. I've tried two different remotes, both working with the receiver plugged into computers. I'm fairly techy but a complete novice to the raspberry pi and linux. Running XBMC 13.2 and Flirc 3.0 firmware. Has anyone had this problem or know of a way to remedy it? Thanks

Good Evening all, I am building and configuring my XBMC media center perfecting it in every way to my needs. I have recently come across FLIRC and really excited to use it as I will be ditching my old Sky box and feel the Sky+ Remote would be awesome to control the media center however I have one big issue and that is aesthetics. Hi, I am new to this whole XBMC thing so please bear with me. I have an i5 HTPC box running Openelec and recently purchased Flirc so that I can use one of my existing remotes to control the box. Used the XBMC layout to pair the keys and everything seems fine, except for one super annoying thing... I can't find a way to evoke Add to Favorites menu when I find a channel or add-on that I would like to save in my favorites menu. I am sure I am not the only one that ran across this issue. After I have upgraded to Flirc 1.26 and firmware 2.5 I cannot load back my old configuration which I have saved before the upgrade. I have a lot of saved keys and I do not want to to them again. Is there a problem with that feature?

Hi all, I'm new to flirc and I'm having a lot of issues getting flirc to work. Ok, so I just bought a Fire TV and have XBMC installed on it. I have a Harmony One remote and most of the keys seem to work except the back, menu and home buttons. I have tried key mapping, but I must be doing something wrong, cause it's not working. I've read so much and now I'm getting confused. My flirc is using the latest stable firmware and I have the latest Mac software. i have a Windows USB keyboard that I was trying to use, but most of the time I hit the key to record and it just blinks. I'm looking at using a Flirc with a Amazon Fire TV. It sits back on an equipment shelf without a direct IR view. Are there any issues with using a USB extension cable with the Flirc? Is there a max length?

I've had my flirc for a few months with a harmony 650 remote. It had been working perfectly since new with the old V1 firmware. Then all of a sudden about a week ago, it has started repeating keys. Nothing changed in my lounge room ( or elsewhere ), and nothing changed in my setup recently. Now it is happening somewhat predictably, and I even have a work around of sorts. So I've got a ChomeBox running OpenElec with XBMC. The flirc is plugged in directly to one of the front ports. Since the problem started, I've tried everything I can think of to solve it. I just got my fire tv and flirc setup complete about a week a go and I love it. The flirc works great with my harmony remote and it saves me from having to have a separate remote for the fire tv. I am having one issue though with the watch disney app. ON the app, there is a link where you can select 'More Shows', then stream other shows. However I am unable to actually select that link. When I naviagte to the link and click select nothing happens. If I use the original fire tv remote it selects it just fine. This seems to be the only place where I get an odd behavior with the select button. Using the harmony remote the select buttons works everywhere else(other ap…

Hi New to Flirc, and not having much luck. Plugged in the dongle, installed the software, tried to prog the remote, no key presses recognised on any remote. After a bit of digging the drivers appeared to not be working (see attached image). Found another driver online, installed it, after restart same issue as before. Tried multiple times to force firware update, crashes every time. Any ideas? Pentium 4 Vista

I have used three different IR repeaters with no success. I programmed my remote and flirc without the IR repeater. Everything worked very well until I put the flirc in the media cabinet. Nothing work with the IR repeater in the loop. Someone suggested programming flirc with the IR repeater in the loop. I tried this, but was unable to program anything. I also turned on the noise cancellation option. I would get the "Button already exists" message. No IR repeater compatibility is a deal breaker for me. I just purchased eight flircs and at least four will require IR repeaters. Anyone had luck with another IR repeater/remote combo?

I have an amazon fire tv/flirc/harmony setup. Using the panasonic tv profile I have remapped all of the buttons to exactly how I like them. Though I have run into one small snag. I used one of the buttons to program the media center sleep/suspend command and put the amazon fire tv to sleep. With that button now programmed for sleep I setup the harmony remote to press that button when I press off to turn off all devices. It all works great and I love it. Recently I have had the issue with repeated key presses on the remote. If I enable the noise canceler in the advanced setup it goes away and that problem is solved. Hi there, Does anyone have a fix yet as to why the Raspberry Pi receives multiple keypresses through the Flirc? I've scoured this forum and more looking for a fix, but it persists even through several iterations of XBMC/Kodi and Flirc firmware updates. I have tried 5 different remotes, from my Harmony 300 and two different Harmony Ones, to a generic remote and the TV's remote. I have tried 4 different flavours of XMBC/Kodi from RaspBMC to OpenELEC. Hi all, I successfully mapped a key combination to the "yellow" key on my remote, but when I thought about it, I figured I'd rather use the "green" key for that function. I tried to erase the yellow key, v2.6 of the firmware said it erased successfully but when I went to re-program yellow with a different key it was still set to the old combination. I tried re-inserting the dongle 2 or 3 times, re-starting the software and even trying a different PC but there's something seriously not right going on with the firmware. It accepts programming OK but does not erase properly. Any ideas? Thanks.
