  1. I have a new install of Kubuntu 13.10 on at Intel DN2820. I have downloaded the zip file and extracted Flirc and flirc_util. Attempting run do sudo ./Flirc returns to the command line and if I do a dmesg I get this: [16813.819316] Flirc[5025]: segfault at 4 ip b776ff53 sp bfb76590 error 4 in ld-2.17.so[b7765000+20000]. Is there an update or other way to correct this issue. Thanks
  2. Unlike the people complaining that they have problems with repeating keys, I would actually like that. I have to press the up or down button a million times to scroll though a long list of shows. (what is this the dark ages? lol). I am wondering if there is a way for the Flirc to just repeat the command as long as you hold down the button?
  3. a. this isn't really possible with flirc yet. it can be in a firmware release, but I don't have it planned at the moment. b. you'll need to use something like event ghost to launch an application with a custom remote command
  4. Hello, I have a suggestion to add a record_raw command that works like the record_api command with the addition to pair with raw IR code. This would be great to make it easier to edit, rearange, sort, copy and append differend configs in a ordinary textfile and then program the file into flirc. I would also like the plex_utils keys command to show all keys...now it doesn't show the keys with modifiers. / Zälda
  5. Thanks for the gifts you sent! Really not necessary! As I mentioned, I haven't found a good solution to the "Home" command for fireTV. Anything that I tried, either doesn't work or works like a "Back" command. LMK if I can help, and thanks again, Tony
  6. **** EDIT **** Hey guys, Jason here. Be sure to check out the bottom of this post for additional information that I made *************** **** DOUBLE EDIT **** Official Amazon firetv support added to the latest release candidate. It's very stable, and will probably go public: Is now in the stable firmware ********************************* Using Flirc with Amazon's fireTV. After finding bits and pieces of helpful info in various threads, I thought it might be helpful to start a new thread that combines what I've learned with a place for others to share their experiences. First, you wouldn't be here if you weren't frustrated with fireTV's Bluetooth remote control. The fact that they omitted an IR path to remote control is a major omission for AV enthusiasts who have labored to combine control of all their devices into one remote control. Enter Flirc. This little device is amazing. By using the Flirc and its software, it basically take whatever IR command your remote sends it and uses it as a trigger to send out whatever command you associated with it. For example: You could program it to send an Up command whenever you push the "1" button on your remote. Or you could program it to send a play command whenever you push the guide button on your remote. Of course it makes much more sense to program remote bottons that correspond to the actual command desired, but Flirc doesn't care! I’m using a Windows 8.1 desktop machine. I have no knowledge or access to a Mac or Linux. I have a URC MX980 remote. When I added a device for fireTV, I told the remote that it was a Panasonic DVD player and assigned commands from the Panasonic Remote to my MX980's keys. It really makes no difference what device you assign as long as your remote sends an IR signal when the desired key is pressed. Those signals become the trigger signals for Flirc. As it turned out, whenever I pressed up, down, left, or right, I got double key pushes on the fireTV. I tried changing the inter-key delay from the Flirc GUI - File > Advanced, but that didn’t help. So I assigned the arrow keys from an Apple TV remote to my MX980 and that fixed the problem. So far I have almost everything working. Obviously, the voice command feature isn’t a player. I still haven’t found a Home Key in the Flirc GUI that performs the Home function of the fireTV remote. The best that I have been able to do is a back command. From what I can tell, the play button alternates between play and pause. Separate pause and stop commands don’t work. I haven’t been able to test the skip+ and skip- commands so the jury is still out. Programming the menu key requires use of the windows command line program. There seems to be some confusion in the forums about reference to the command line app. It is not part of Flirc or the Flirc GUI, but part of windows. Now my level of knowledge pales in comparison to many of the members here, but this is what I was able to decipher. I found this page to help me learn about the command line commands: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1723&page=2 As I mentioned, the command line program cmd.exe Is part of Windows. You can get to it and number of ways depending on your version of Windows. Use it to navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Flirc for 64 bit OS or C:\Program Files\Flirc for 32 bit OS then type: flirc_util.exe record_api 0 101 It will then ask you to point the remote and press the button you want mapped just like the GUI. Once you do that it will tell you that you were successful. Here is how I mapped my remote to the Flirc commands. The Controllers column refers to the Controllers menu in the Flirc GUI. There are several choices there and you will need 3 of them to duplicate what I have done. I don’t know if there is a difference between similar keys in the Media Center and Media Keys layouts. I did not take the time to test it. Maybe someone can post that info if they know. If they are the same, it would simplify things. Thanks to the other members who’s posts led me down this path to success If I missed something or made a typo, pls feel free to correct it! **** EDIT **** Hey guys, it's Jason hijacking Tony's post. The select button marked as 'enter' above which is in the GUI, is actually not correct. It must be 'return'. Do this with the commandline: flirc_util record return Just a heads up that I'm going to make life so much easier, I'm going to update the GUI with an official FireTV window. Hopefully I can do this by the weekend. Attached an image. ****************
  7. Hi Everyone, Newbie here! I recently bought an Amazon fireTV and love it except for the remote! It is bluetooth and I can't use my URC 980 programable IR remote with it since there are no IR commands to learn and no IR input. So Flirc comes to the rescue! I have programmed everything that I need except the "Menu" key. This thread discusses it but seems to assume a level of knowledge that I don't have. Can someone please post some info on how to use the command line app and where to find it? I'm using Flirc 1.2.5 and firmware 2.3 on a Win 8 64 bit PC.
  8. Hi guys. I've received my Flirc a few days ago and I'm not able to run a lot of functions or keys with my Harmony 300 (Vol+ vol- mute smallstepack). :o Of course I've read before an tested this guide without luck. The XBMC Flirc profile in MyHarmony don't work fine with the Harmony 300. If I load this profile the Volume+ Volume- and smallstepback don't work. I've also tried to program the harmony like a Samsung LN46C650L1F and assigned a function to all the keys as mentioned in the post. BUT when I try to program or reassign this functions in the FlircGui 1.2.5 (w7x64 + firmware 2.5) they don't work. For example, I press the Vol+ in the gui, it asks for the command, then I press the button in the remote and Flirc says 'recorded successfully' BUT if I test the new key it doesn't work neither Flirc Gui nor Openelec 3.95.2. I can't make it work from any panel... minimalist, Full Keyboard, XBMC. I haven't this issues with the direction arrows, exit, play, enter, stop, forward, backward, up, down, left, right, INFO and numbers 0 to 9. It is curious that when I record the key mute (with any button in my Harmony) it makes it on the key info  What can I do? A lot of thanks. :)
  9. I have this same remote and also can not get it to work. If I try to program 80 keys, it works just fine, but when I add the last 4 (total of 84) the Flirc simply stops working and NONE of the buttons on the remote return a value. I have version 1.2.4 and the latest firmware. Suspected that there may be a problem with the "erase" command and started fresh. This time only programming 76 buttons on the remote and saving after each group of buttons. All seems to be working, even the previous keys that gave me the "button already exists" error. I can manage with the 76 keys, I will try the last 6 or so later on and save after each time and see what happens. Maybe the act of erasing and adding adds to the memory?
  10. So I just bought a new remote and went to reprogram everything including my Flirc. First I had several problems with getting errors such as "button already exists". So deselected all the profiles and forced an FW upgrade. Now I am not getting any response from the Flirc when trying to program the buttons. The software program says that it is connected but when I go to program a button, the Flirc does not seem to receive the command. I have tried with several different remotes at varying lengths and angles with no success. I have tried restarting, reinstalling, different USB ports, but nothing seems to work. I have also tried the software on Mac OSX and windows 7 through parrallels. Thoughts? Thanks.
  11. Hi I have a media player that runs android and I want to use the FLIRC to control it. it works fine when the player is on, but when it goes to sleep, I can't wake it up with the FLIRC. If I connect a keyboard and then let it go to sleep, I can keep the Enter key pressed for a short while (2-3 seconds) and then the player wakes up again. Is there a way I can emulate that with a IR command? And what would I need to do in the FLIRC settings? I hope someone here has a good idea what I can try :)
  12. I just got my flirc and it came with firmware 2.0. My remote is the Harmony Ultimate and while I could record my remote buttons I was having trouble as it seemed the direction arrow up and direction arrow right were sending the same command. I upgraded my flirc firmware to 2.4 and cleared the configuration to start again and now I cannot record any remote commands at all. Can I revert to an earlier firmware?
  13. I didn't know the FTV keys did that... will have to take a look. The menu key will be put into the GUI, but it's not currently there. On Windows you can navigate to the Flirc directory (C:\Program Files\Flirc I believe) from a command prompt and type in flirc_util.exe record_api 0 101. It will then ask you to point the remote and press the button you want mapped just like the GUI. I also just realized we're having this conversation on both the XBMC and Flirc forums...
  14. I used the "Media Keys" controller in the Flirc GUI to map the media keys. The FF, RW, and play/pause keys on the Fire TV remote send those signals (I connected my Fire TV remote to my computer temporarily to see what it would do). For the option/context menu key, you can use the menu key next to the right Windows button or Ctrl-Esc. I found the menu key to be more reliable. Esc works as the Fire TV remote's back button. The flirc_util command for mapping the menu key is: flirc_util record_api 0 101
  15. Bump. Where's the f***ing "command line app"? Edit: NVM, packed it up and sent it back to Amazon. $30 dongle with crappy documentation.
  16. Ok I just got Flirc to work with a old WMC remote I had for my old 360 and it worked. It worked fairly good. Had to press the key 2 times to get it to respond. When using the MyHarmony do I remove all the commands in that? Like what the buttons are suppose to do? Ok not sure what I did but I was able to get it to work on my main PC. I'm gonna take the Flirc and put it on my HTPC and see if that works. Ok it all works out fine now. Still not sure why it wouldn't pick it up before but it's working now. I do have 1 question, is there a command for a right click for XBMC with Flirc with the remote? Right click allows getting into the settings at the addon so I was wondering if it was possible.
  17. Where is the command line documentation for Windows?
  18. I have 2 Windows 7 Media Center computers in the same room. One is normally the media server, and the other is normally my PC, but sometimes I need to switch if I've recorded something that is cable card encrypted, copy protected as play once, and gets recorded on my PC, but not on my media server. The system includes 2 SiliconDust HDHomeRun Primes, a Pioneer Elite Receiver/ Home Theater, a regular, generic, non-programmable, HP WMC remote and a Lenovo WMC USB IR receiver, and it all works ok. I also have a Harmony 700. I now also have added an HP MediaSmart TV Remote (remote only, no HP TV - P/N 5189-3683) that can be programmed for various CBL, DVD, AVR and AUX devices, as well as the non-configurable HP MediaSmart TV Profile. It apparently uses the XBMC command set for the TV Profile from what I've read, which apparently is different than the WMC command set, as the remote does not control my WMC server using that TV Profile. It can achieve somewhat limited WMC functionality by loading the right code into one of the other CBL, DVD, AVR, or AUX profiles, but the limited usage is pre-determined by the hardware in so much as what buttons and functions actually do anything in those modes. The remote: HP MediaSmart TV RC2285202/01 P/N 5189-3683: http://www.giftspub.com/HP%20MediaSmart%20TV%20remote%20setting%20manual.pdf The MediaSmart TV that the remote was made for: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&product=3369894&dlc=en&docname=c01445164#N1099 So, my plan is to use FLIRC to work with TV Profile on that MediaSmart remote, to operate my WMC 7 media server. I'll use the standard WMC remote system with my other PC. Are my assumptions correct and should that work? If so, this should then allow my Harmony 700 remote to be able to control either WMC and everything else in the system, and I'll also have the dedicated remotes, one for each WMC, and the remotes should not interfere with each other.
  19. Hi Jason, this evening I tried your suggestion with a WAKE command registered and I enabled the "sleep detection" and... I can confirm that this command works also from the full shutdown!!! I tried it without big hope because on the previous posts on this forum I was able oonly to get confirmation about wakeup from sleep S3 state and never about S5 state (Shutdown). Now I can confirm to everyone: with the new motherboards like the Asrock I have, FLIRC is able to completely Power ON and of course power OFF the PC!! This is perfect and lovely! Last improvement to become an amazing product would be to be able to program the same key for both Power ON and Power OFF, the current proposal requires a very complex procedure to emulate this feature. The post can be closed, now. Very good job! Thanks
  20. Is there a way to map the menu key on the keyboard, perhaps on the command line? It's usually next to the right Windows key.
  21. Hi Jason, Tel me how to create syntax in order to delete one of keys. I'm trying like that: C:\Program Files (x86)\Flirc>flirc_util.exe delete_index'16' [E] run_cmds(248): could not find command 'delete_index'16' It doesn't work. Here is my flirc_util settings: flirc_util version v1.2.3 [v1.2.3] Firmware: v2.4 Settings: sleep detection: Disabled noise canceler: Enabled inter-key delay: 3 state: 0 builtin profiles: Disable Memory Info: keys recorded: 32 keys remaining: 137 memory used: 23% Recorded Keys: Index hash key ----- --------- --- 0 65F8450 1 1 25D2475F 2 2 46EB8450 3 3 A562485F 4 4 C662485F 5 5 655E485F 6 6 8687D952 7 7 2513AF61 8 8 4613AF61 9 9 E55E8450 0 10 460CD99A up 11 65BF9B4B down 12 86B71F14 left 13 25B31F14 right 14 86BF9B4B return 15 46AB894B backspace 16 65B71F14 i 17 6708498 - 18 E5261F14 = 19 257BC215 t 20 6576B811 p 21 869FAF61 space 22 6FF9C61 x 23 C633C63C r 24 A5FA9C61 f 25 C6E38398 , 26 A5E38398 . 27 6484D90 / 28 A5120D14 pageup 29 C64B9C4B pagedown 30 E5474D90 w 31 C6948ADF c I want to remove line 16 ("info" button from my harmony). This button doesn't work. Nothing happens when I press it. When I assign "Info" button with flirc software there two info buttons (I dont know why). There is some conflict between default flirc xbmc from my harmony and builtin profile from Flirc.
  22. How does one go about setting up multiple profiles on the FLIRC and setting up a harmony button to switch between the two? Having a "watch MCE" button that fired off commands related to MCE and the same for XBMC would be ideal, but how would I tell the FLIRC to switch modes via an IR command?
  23. This issue seems to be back around. I'm running a clean install of Mythbuntu 12.04.3 LTS. When I run Flirc (sudo or as myth-user), here's the results that I get: me@my-myth:~/Flirc-v1.2.2-x64$ ./Flirc ./Flirc: error while loading shared libraries: libQtSvg.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory The results from lsusb: me@my-myth:~/Flirc-v1.2.2-x64$ lsusb Bus 002 Device 019: ID 20a0:0001 Clay Logic ... The results from flirc_util: me@my-myth:~/Flirc-v1.2.2-x64$ ./flirc_util version Warning: cannot open USB deviceWarning: cannot open USB devicedevice disconnected, can't run command Reading up on my issue, I tripped across a thread elsewhere where the person mentioned that the Flirc dongle & interface still worked on Win vX, so I tried it there & it worked. I was able to load some commands and save the profile. Plugging the Flirc back into the MythBuntu box produced no response; nothing at all. So what do I do about this to get Flirc (hardware and software) working on this MythTV box?
  24. Hi there! I have an RTI dealer-programmed universal remote, which I'd love to use with Plex via FLIRC. The RTI communicates via RF to a controller box, which sends pre-entered IR codes via IR emitters placed on each component. When a command is entered on the remote, all of the IR emitters push the same signal to every component. To minimize interference (and my understanding is that this would apply to many dealer-configured universal remote setups), it would be great to specify non-assigned IR hex codes to map to keys. In other words, when I select 'shift+W', present me with a prompt to manually input an IR hex code, as opposed to simply activating FLIRC to listen for an IR signal (which relies on having a specific remote already). If this could be done, it would be a TREMENDOUS help for anyone planning on utilizing customized universal remotes. In any case - thank you for creating such a straight-forward solution to such a silly problem.
  25. Thank you for this great product. It would be great if the Flirc Harmony profile had both PowerOn and PowerOff commands and if the PowerOn command was mapped to the wake function on the Flirc.
