In the Flirc GUI - could you be listening to the remote, and bright up the key that you see pressed? So if I press my remote UP button, you light up the UP button on the screen. This would provide a confirmation for what function is bound to what remote button. Thanks.

Backstory: So 24 hours in and I have my Flirc doing everything I want (Ill make the appropriate thank you in another post). I wish I could say the experience of setting it up didn't come with a few speed bumps. I ended up running into an issue where the Flirc would program on my Windows 7 box but when I'd get it on my XBMCbuntu system it wouldn't respond. I tried all the USB ports (some are on different hubs) but alas it would not work. I tried rebooting several times, I tried re-flashing / wiping then re-importing / upgrading-fw / downgrading-fw, nothing helped ... finally I tired a very simple setup (arrows only) and it seemed to be fine. I am of course a Newb only having a single programming under my belt of a 3 hour old Flirc but I found something horribly annoying (mostly cause of Harmony) but I can see it could help lots of folks. Giving us the ability while not erasing or learning a command the to playback the mapped IR functions of a remote. What I mean is: After I have programmed a map from lets say the "Play" button on my Harmony to the spacebar on a keyboard layout. If I was to press "Play" button on the remote the GUI would identify that the spacebar is the appropriate mapped keystroke by highlighting the spacebar oh, lets say .. red. I think it would help troubleshooting complex setups.

i think this would be great! Using FLIRC's GUI, if we could indicate the path of an executable we wish to launch, and record it to a desired button on our remote that would be awesome!! :)

The remote I decided to use with my flirc was the Yamaha Rav214. It, itself, is a programmable remote, with a multi device switcher, and quite a lot of keys that *dont* switch codes when the function selector is changed. As such, its a bit of a nightmare to setup in the current flirc GUI - Ive had to experiment with several different layouts (mappings of the buttons on the remote to button assignments in flirc) as - some of the buttons turned out to not be used (on the remote) on some target devices. - other buttons were common accross several layouts (and, so I ended up simultaneously driving the volume on xbmc AND the av receiver at the same time). - some of th…

Hi All, Thought i'd let you know that Jason is concerned about the "sticky key" effect sometimes observed (e.g. when a key on the remote is pressed multiple times in quick succession resulting in a lot more scrolling than anticipated). Can you add more payment options to buy the FLIRC dongle. Currently only Paypal is supported. I almost backed out of my preorder as I have had bad experience with paypal before. I understand being able to enter the credit card information directly might be too complicated. But if you could add other options like Amazon payments or Google wallet, you will have most users covered.

Hello, I find the FLIRC a ingenius sollution and suprisingly easy to use, but... trough the internet i can find most common keyboard shortcuts, but not all so my suggestion: a "pinned" topic For each platform containing a table with the known keyboard shortcuts and description. in this way users can contibute found codes and (new) (unexperiened) users can find the codes on one central place Henk

I made a program that does something similar to this, but using a mobile device (connected via Telnet) as a remote instead of an IR remote. My program let you have a profile for each program, and a universal one to fall back upon if one didn't exist for the program you're using. And it would switch to the profile automatically for whatever program was currently in-focus. Could you do something similar? That way we could for example, have a different profile for Media Player than we would Powerpoint.

Just ordered a Flirc for my Raspberry to use with my Apple Remote since the Flirc seems like the easiest way to get things working - GREAT! But this might be an idea for "future Flircs". In my living room I have a media cabinet with a Receiver, DVD, TV and a Mac Mini (running Plex). Since this is a closed cabinet, IR won't work and I rather control everything from ONE remote than several. So to solve this, I have installed a GlobalCaché iTach WF2IR. This device receives commands from the OpenRemote controller installed on my NAS. Then I have OpenRemote Panel installed on my iPhone to control each device. Got my Flirc today - its working great and I have no isues with it at all so far. it is something that will have a lot of uses and I look forward to getting more. My biggest issue is postage costs. The box it arrived in was hugh compared to the little packaging that the flirc is in. It could have help a dozen or more of them. Whats really annoying is that the box weighed more than the flirc itself. Unfortuinately, it cost me double (clse to) to get this unit and it was very disapointing to see the box wehen it arrived. Something needs to be done about USPS and the costs of this unit because I am sure its hurting sales. Mick

This might be the last of your problems, but I would really like to see an icon for the flirc.exe file. :) It's just ugly in the Win7-Taskbar. :)

Hi! During programming my Flirc via the GUI, I assigned my remote's back button to 'back' on the GUI and the menu key to 'parent_dir'. However during actual operation on XBMC, these keys work contrary to how I'd expect. If I press the back key on my remote, XBMC takes me back all right, right to the top level, and not just back one level. Pressing menu does what I'd expect back to do, just go back up the tree one level. Does this make sense or am I bonkers? :)

this would be an amazing GUI improvement in my opinion! if possible, somehow show already recorded FLIRC buttons in GREEN color! it would definitely be easier to see which buttons are recorded and which ones are not! and when users would delete a recorded button, of course, it would go back to GREY color! :)

Has anyone tried Flirc on LinuxMCE yet or can it even be done?

Hi just got my flirc yesterday :) I think a went over all setting and did not find anything like this. I have been using winlirc for almost 3 years but it has problems and when I found flirc i knew this is it ! Ok so here is what I think, flirc is made to work with x number of different remotes, but not all of them will work the same, form what I have learned from winlirc it is not flirc that has problem but it is remote that is the problem. So I have this remote. It is universal cheap with tons of presets - not all of this presets work 100% as they should - if you were to set them with lets say your tv - example you take preset 1 and your tv menu goes to fa…

It would be nice to be able to associate a remote button press with a series of keystrokes. For my use, I would associate my volume buttons with ++ and -- so that I can control the volume in larger increments than a single + or - would. I realize that the long keystrokes update will make this redundant, but I'm sure there are other uses for a macro feature like this.

It would be nice to have a tool tip balloon or area with name/title + details (like which corresponding keyboard button) for each button on the learning app. While the KB controller is self-explanatory, some of the icons for XBMC etc are not as obvious (well at least to me).

I would happily buy a Flirc unit - except the freight to Australia (for such a small item) is quite excessive - some $17!! It almost doubles the price of the item. I buy things from the USA all the time (via ebay and other avenues) and understand that freight can be expensive. Surely there is a cheaper option though?

I think it would be pretty awesome to have this available in an option that would fit a standard sized drive bay, and use an internal USB header. This way it could be cleanly installed in a media PC, without having to worry about losing the adapter during moves. It could also be bundled into, say, a "premium" model, that attaches to a hub and spits out a few more front USB ports for convenience. Or a cardreader or something along those lines.

How tough would it be to write something similar to the Flirc GUI that could be run cross platform in a browser over an http port, the way you might control things like Sickbeard, SABnzbd+ or CouchPotato? Then even OSes without their own GUI could make use of a more graphical means of configuring Flirc. This would be great for people like me, who have a Flirc that decided it hates Mac and only wants to function properly from a Linux command line.

Sup guys, long time no see :P Dont know if its do'able but, what if FLIRC could handle multiple profiles? example, sometimes i use XBMC and sometimes Windows Media PLayer... Both of these players have their own ways/keys for doing stuff... Idea would be to create a profile for XBMC and a seperate one for Windows Media Player, and then assign a desired button on my remote to toggle the XBMC profile when needed and assign a different one to toggle the Windows Media Player profile when needed! THat would rock on!!!!! BOOM!!!!!!!!!!! right?? :)
