Wake On USB , any signal from harmony wakes computer
yawor replied to GregL's topic in General Questions
One more post to clear some things. There's no "software keyboard" mode in Flirc. What you're referring to is probably that you've selected the Full Keyboard controller in Flirc GUI. Switching controllers in the GUI doesn't do anything besides changing the view in the GUI. Controllers are just different views. Both Full Keyboard and Multimedia keys controllers give you access to all the keys. All other controllers (with some small exceptions) are just something like wrappers on full keyboard and multimedia controllers. They just provide preconfigured key combinations for specific applications or hardware. But they are still sending keyboard keystrokes. You can switch and mix keys from different controllers anyway you like. I think the issue you have is with the "Power Off" key. You've probably set your "Watch a Movie" activity in a way that when you exit that activity the remote sends the power off command. Maybe it's also being sent on entering other activities which causes your PC to turn on (as explained earlier, right now any code recognised by Flirc will wake the PC). So when the PC is up, the power off will turn it off, but when it's already off the power off key right now will turn it on. -
FLIRC disconnected after going to sleep

Hello Jason I just ran the Flirc Util command again and I got something new, I have enclosed the results below: C:\Program Files (x86)\Flirc>flirc_util.exe device_log <1>malloc_addblock(49): Heap Block: 0x20001FAC - 0x20002FFF (4k) <3>init_modules(419): Module Load Error: &module = 0x0000EA80 <3>log_output_init(42): no log hw found <3>init_modules(419): Module Load Error: &module = 0x0000EB10 <3>ir_finished(55): too many edges <3>ir_finished(55): too many edge The last two lines have never occured before. First, I want to say, I have covered the issue of no power to the flirc to be able to boot... I have a media pi+ case (http://sb-components.co.uk/mediapi.html or https://www.amazon.com/Limited-Raspberry-MEDIAPI-integrated-Remote/dp/B00SEGYY7C) I am not using the onboard IR that came with it, as there's no power to it when the raspberry pi shutsdown. So I bought a flirc SE, and I have a couple adapter cables plugged in that allowed me to have the flirc se powered off of the incoming power, and it also splits to power raspbery pi (internal usb cable that came with FLIRC SE going to adapter cable that gives me standard usb plug, going into female usb plug that splits into 1 male, 1 female micro usb) so I have power going to everything, My question is, how do I set the IR remote to "boot" or wake from sleep or wake from hibernate? also, I am assuming I will need to connect one of the power switch pin pairs up to the raspberry pi for the actual boot command to work, Can I connect it to the run pin holes as that does a reset? sorry for the rather noobish question, I am trying to teach myself this stuff as much as possible, I have searched first, and did not see anything that covered this, so if it is covered elsewhere, could you please direct me to it? thanks in advance for any information or guidance anyone is able to give.

Transfer "old" configurations to a new Flirc dongle
Flavia replied to Flavia's topic in General Questions
@yawor Thank you Yawor, I wonder if I made a mistake, but if I enter the command I get an error (v2.3.1, iMac el Capitan): funtypes-iMac:~ funtype$ /Applications/Flirc.app/Contents/Resources/flirc_util keys dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libhidapi.0.dylib Referenced from: /Applications/Flirc.app/Contents/Resources/flirc_util Reason: image not found Trace/BPT trap: 5@jason Thank You Jasen, I just tried it, first I cleared the configs again, loading the old config and saving it to the new Flirc. Unfortunately still without success. -
FLIRC disconnected after going to sleep

Hello Jason Not much help but that is the command I use as a Scheduled Task to put my computer to Sleep after a Backup and it has always worked for me, allowing me to Wake my computer again with a Key Press on my Wireless Keyboard. Kevin -
FLIRC disconnected after going to sleep
Kevin Cowans replied to madmanuel's topic in General Questions
Hello Jason Open PowerShell and run the following command: PowerCFG /SYSTEMSLEEPDIAGNOSTICS This will create an HTML file, Open that and it will show you a page that also specifies the Sleep State, in my case Sleeping3. Hope this helps. Kevin -
FLIRC disconnected after going to sleep
Kevin Cowans replied to madmanuel's topic in General Questions
Hello Jason Thanks for all your work. As for the refund, not necessary but thanks for the offer. The key you have used in the above post is the same one I have mapped. The Flirc is setup in Device Manager to Allow it to Wake the computer. The way I have things setup is that I have a Logitech Harmony One Remote setup to switch off the Computer when it is not in use and to do so it sends the key associated with the Wake / Suspend key in the Flirc Software, in my case the PlayBackTest command when the Activity is started or stopped. When I change the Activity the Computer always Sleeps but will not Wake. To Wake my Computer I can press any key on my Logitech K830 Wireless Keyboard. How do I find out what Sleep Mode my computer is using? I found it, I am using Sleep Mode S3. Also, I use TeamViewer so if you wish we could setup a session if that would be helpful. Thanks in advance Kevin -
CTRL-F & CTRL-B don't work in Windows Media Center
SirDrexl replied to rgm's topic in General Questions
I don't know, but I tried out WMC to check this and it's kind of flaky on whether it accepts the command from the real keyboard or not. Nothing happens about 1 once every 3 tries. According to Aqua's KeyTest, there's nothing flaky about the keyboard, and when sending the command through the remote to Flirc, both keys appear to be pressed at the same time and will stay held down as I hold down the remote button. I was wondering if it had something to do with WMC wanting Ctrl to be held down longer or something. EDIT: this doesn't seem to be a Flirc issue, per se. It turns out that WMC doesn't recognize simultaneous keypresses, at least for these commands. I can get the keyboard to skip forward every time if I do it like this: press and hold Ctrl, then press F, then release F (before releasing Ctrl). I think Flirc is sending both keys simultaneously and that's why it doesn't work. -
Kevin, might need to run the command prompt as an administrator. Not to worry, still very much working on it. I appreciate the help and feedback

Dave_O. That's an interesting idea, Have you actually made it work with this OTG cable? The company says both legs cannot work at the same time. Which I think means that when you are using an IR remote, the Flirc USB will transfer the command, but while that's happening, power to the stick will be cut off. Will this not cause problems? Or am I interpreting this wrong?

FLIRC disconnected after going to sleep
Kevin Cowans replied to madmanuel's topic in General Questions
I rolled back the FW from 4.0.12 to 4.0.11 and I still receive the error shown above. I even tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling with the same result. I am at a loss, hopefully Jason can shed some light on why I seem to be the only one unable to run the command successfully. Thanks Kevin -
FLIRC disconnected after going to sleep
Kevin Cowans replied to madmanuel's topic in General Questions
Hello Revs Thanks for the reply. I spent some more time today trying to get the command to run error free, however, no matter what I have tried I always receive the Error. What version of the FW are you running? I am running the 4.0.12 FW. Kevin -
Nope - ran fine for me in a normal command prompt

FLIRC disconnected after going to sleep
Kevin Cowans replied to madmanuel's topic in General Questions
Hello Jason The GUI was closed. I even tried running the command after a Reboot and received the same Error. Thanks in advance Kevin -
Also, I ship a commandline version with the GUI. Make sure the GUI is closed, and then run the following command: flirc_util (or flirc_util.exe if on windows) device_log This will spit out a log of information to the commandline, please paste that here as well.

Yes, I know what advantages it would bring. It's not my decision to make of course, but to be honest, I don't see that ever happening. First of all, Logitech probably has agreements with all manufacturers which they support with their BT remote control. That gives them an access to protocol specifications. I don't say it's impossible, but certainly hard for a small company like Flirc to get such an agreement from big TV appliance producers.Every manufacturer uses rather their own control protocol. Flirc would need a separate support (in the firmware) for each manufacturer's BT remote control. This is NOT standardised in any way. This applies at least to Samsung and LG (I don't know about others): BT TV remotes still require an IR to turn the TV on first as they don't support turning on over BT. This means that the remote won't send a BT command for power button.I hope I'm in the wrong here though as that would certainly be a nice feature. But I won't hold my breadth.

Hi, I've bought a Shield TV and FLIRC about a week ago, and I've been following this thread since... I've had some mediaplayer devices before, but none like this! Also the FLIRC is great; I used to think it was just another IR receiver, but it's so much more! I'm having some problems configuring the FLIRC to work with my Philips Pronto URC. I also have this problem. Sometimes I can get it to stop, but other times, I had to pull the FLIRC. I must say, I'v been messing with the configuration and programming some different profiles combined (Shield/Kodi/Media). Is there an easy way to 'wipe' the complete configuration (without erasing every button separately) to start over? Never mind, I already found this one. After getting the basics working, I would sure like to add a discrete Power On/Off (it would be even better if it was possible to put the Shield to sleep from within Kodi) Also, the double-tap (Pause/Play) Seems useful. When using the Pause play from the Kodi menu, the menu doesn't disappear automatically, while by using the double-tap, it does. Earlier in this thread, there is a list of IR HEX codes for different commands, but from what I understood until now, it doesn't really matter which IR code I use to pair a command? Thanks for any help on these...

Yea, they ARE sticky. If I press another button, the new button will override previous command, but I can't get it to unstick completely, not even using the original remote. I had to restart.

How to Wake computer from Sleep (USB Flirc v2)
Kevin Cowans replied to Kevin Cowans's topic in General Questions
Hello Thanks for the reply. I am now on v2.2.2 with the same issues. I have got my Harmony One Remote configured to 'I want to urn off this device when not in use' and ' I use the same button for on and for off' and then I have configured Flirc to use the PlayBackTest command to Suspend / Wake using the Media Keys Profile in the GUI as suggested in a post by Jason in another discussion on here. Using this, the system Sleeps fine however it will not Wake and I have to use my USB Wireless Keyboard (Logitech K830) to Wake the System. After the system has Resumed from Sleep the Flirc USB is shown as Disconnected in the GUI and I have to unplug and plug it in again for it to be recognised. In case it helps, I am using the ASUS H110I-Plus MotherBoard with Windows 10 Home and everything is up to date as of today. Jason, if you are reading this can you please confirm if this is a known issue? Thanks in advance Kevin -
It should work. You can confirm if you have USB port powered by disconnecting the device from power, then plug something that draw power from USB (like a phone) and connect the power. The device should indicate that it draws the power from USB. But you actually connect the Flirc SE to the internal USB port pin header. You need to make sure that these ports are also powered (there's a small risk that only external ports are powered when shut down, but I think the internal should also be powered). To record the power button you need to use command line utility flirc_util (it's installed together with Flirc GUI) by calling flirc_util.exe record powerand then pressing the button you want. But you need to remember, that this button can't be assigned to anything else. It'll always "push" the motherboard power button, so when the system is started it will shutdown or go to sleep (depending on the system settings) when you press the button again.

Guys, I don't think full compatibility with the Shield across every single app will ever be possible. Problem #1 is there are 3 separate android commands apps can use for "confirmation", but only 1 can be replicated on a PC keyboard. Google has written guidelines to app developers to support KEYCODE_ENTER at minimum (which is what FLIRC maps to the center button on the remote). Nvidia tells developers to use KEYCODE_DPAD_CENTER or KEYCODE_BUTTON_A (https://developer.nvidia.com/android-tv-developer-guide) but some apps written for Android TV in general instead of specifically for the Shield don't follow the guidelines and only use KEYCODE_ENTER. Crossy Road for example uses KEYCODE_BUTTON_A (along with other various gamepad commands), so it won't respond to FLIRC. HBO uses KEYCODE_DPAD_CENTER for as far as I know. Problem #2 is that even if all 3 of these those android commands could be replicated by a keyboard, the Flirc can only send one command per button. I know macros are in the cards at some point, which would help address this specific issue, but as long as problem #1 exists it's largely irrelevant. It makes sense for the Enter/Return key AKA KEYCODE_ENTER to be the primary button used by Flirc since it's the most widely supported one on Android TV.

Yes, a few hours ago I've discovered the command line options for JRiver and they work great. You don't type the word Mode by the way, but only the name of the mode itself. So in my case it's simply /Theater. Also, it seems that Flirc will only ship to my country (Israel) via DHL or FedEx Express, for $44, which is absolutely ridiculous for such a tiny device. I bought a generic IR receiver for Windows on eBay ($2 with free shipping) and will use EventGhost instead. Less intuitive, but far cheaper. Also ordered a Logitech Harmony 650. Thanks for all the replies.

1st gen Flirc hardware (Flirc USB in plastic case and Flirc SE) doesn't support keystroke sequences and most probably won't ever (not enough space in the device for that). The new, 2nd get hardware (Flirc USB in metal case) doesn't support keystroke sequences yet, but this is coming sometime in the future, but I don't think there's a plan for configurable delays in between keystrokes (but who knows, the feature is not here yet so everything can happen). On the other hand you can use command line switches with JRiver. Look at this link: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/The_Command_Line You can modify your desktop shortcut by adding /Mode switch with the mode you want to the exe path and start the app into that mode right away, without the need to switch it later. So you can use /Mode Fullscreento start in fullscreen mode, or /Mode Theaterto start in Threader View.

So, just to be clear, in the FLIRC software, I should choose the FireTV layout and press my existing Harmony "OK" button to pair it with the FTV? Will that work? I thought it was the IR command being sent by the remote that mattered. Or do I need to use an actual FTV remote to program it? Just want to make sure.
