So I fumbled around a while getting issues with multiple keypresses, sometimes needing to press twice on a remote button, mapping, clearing, changing settings etc. Probably blew 4 hours of my life and I think I finally landed on a solution so thought I would share: Harmony Setup: Add Flirc XBMC device (Computer>Media Center PC>Flirc>XBMCGo into "Settings" for the XBMC Device and select "Adjust the Delays (speed settings)"Change "Inter-Key Delay" to 300Create your Activity including the TV and the Flirc XBMC devices.Go into "Settings" for the Activity and select "Troubleshoot"Answer yes then on the next screen select your XBMC device.Select "XBMC responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally."Change the next setting to "0".Update your remote.Flirc Setup:Clear your configuration.Select File>Advanced and make sure that "Builtin Profiles" is checked (this will be autoprogramed for the Harmony Flirc XBMC device in your remote settings).Make sure "Inter-Key Delay" is set to "0".Close the Flirc software.Plug Flirc into FireTV.That's it. Hopefully this works well for you. I will be doing some additional steps in the Harmony setup as I noticed that the Menu, Info, Exit buttons are not programmed to do anything and the Flirc XBMC device doesn't have a Guide command. So I will be adding some commands to these buttons (either existing commands or using the Red, Green, Blue, Black buttons to add as custom commands and mapping with the Flirc GUI). Flirc, if you could add a Guide command to the Harmony device that would be awesome. As noted I will use Green for Guide but would rather have something out of the box rather than configured by me. Also, not sure if there is an opportunity to get these mapped in the Flirc XBMC device and/or get the inter-key delay setting adjusted to match the default in Flirc (if I am doing this right!).

I am unable to record the Menu button via the command line. When I execute flirc_util record_api 0 101 from the command line, I do not get a prompt to press a key on my remote. It just ends without recording anything. I am using v1.2.7-rc.4 Thanks

Harmony confusion -- which programming method to use?
padanagua replied to joek's topic in Remote Controls
For those interested in adding commands to the Harmony Ultimate remote using Flirc and XBMC, there is a very simple way to do that without having to fiddle with : - installing the old generic Samsung/Panasonic TV generic profiles to emulate the Flirc device - using the command learning feature of the Harmony remote - manually editing XML keyboard layout files Just add a device using the Flirc Harmony profile in the Harmony app, so you don't have to manually assign all the keys to buttons using the Flirc GUI In case some key/button assignments are missing, make the necessary adjustments using the Flirc GUI. For example, the M key (OSD menu) cannot be mapped to a button in the Harmony app. What i did was i assigned the DVR button on my remote to the AudioNextLanguage command in the Harmony app. Then, i overrode that assignment by associating the DVR button to the M key using the Flirc GUI. The thing is, you have to first assign commands to buttons in the Harmony app before those buttons become available in the Flirc GUI. Going from that, i was able to assign the wake and suspend commands to buttons on my Harmony remote and add those commands to my "Use XBMC" activity. Now my PC goes to sleep when pressing the OFF button and wakes up when pressing the XBMC activity button. More on that here : -
Setting up new Flirc for XBMC and Harmony remote
padanagua replied to oofti's topic in General Questions
I think i've found a very simple way to trigger suspend/wake using a Harmony Ultimate Hub with the Flirc module using XBMC. I am using the Flirc profile in the Harmony app as i find it is more straightforward than going through the hassle of using the generic Panasonic/Samsung TV profile and manually assigning buttons in the Flirc Windows GUI. As the Flirc device in the Harmony app does not provide any poweron/poweroff commands in the Activity section, i did as follows : - using the Harmony app, i assigned two unused commands (Zoom+ and Zoom-) to the "--" and "E" buttons on the Harmony remote (the ones at the bottom left and right) - having done that, the two buttons became available in the Flirc GUI : using the Flirc keyboard layout, i overrode the Zoom+/Zoom- Harmony assignments and associated the "--" and "E" buttons respectively with the Wake and S keys - back to the Harmony app, i was able to add start/stop steps to my "Use XBMC" activity (start command : "Zoom+", stop commands : "Zoom-" and "Select") As of now : - pressing the XBMC activity button on my remote turns on my TV/amp and wakes my PC from suspend mode - pressing the OFF button turns off my TV/amp, calls the XBMC shutdown menu and launches the Suspend command. -
flirc - harmony : Harware - Video issue FIXED
akovia replied to PEDRORADIO's topic in Ideas and Suggestions
Old but still relevant. In my case, I got everything up and running but every 30 seconds (or so) my kodi video would skip backwards. Tried using smplayer which is also programmed through flirc with my harmony remote. Same thing. I then noticed as I started to research the problem that my browser would scroll to the bottom of the page without any input. I thought my mouse was scrolling on its own until I figured out it was a page down command and not a scroll event. (Thanks xev) I moved my flirc from a 10' male > female extension cable that allowed me to perch it up above the cabinet for a clear view, and plugged it into the same hub the extension cable was plugged in to. Problem gone. The cable is still fairy new and well reviewed, so I'm not convinced the problem lies there yet. I'm wondering more if it's acting like an antenna through the cable, or if It's picking up stray signals from where it's placed. Either way I'll try and update this if I make any determinations. Of course I'm open to suggestions as well. Cheers -
Hi, I'm in the process of making som sweet macros but I can't seem to get them to work as I want. This is what I try to do in the command line utility: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Flirc\flirc_util.exe" record F10 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Flirc\flirc_util.exe" record F11 I do get the: Successfully recorded button while doing this. These two are mapped to one key and when I press the remote key the first "F10" activates but not "F11". However when I press the same remote key again "F11" activates. Meaning that I have to press the same remote key twice to get this macro to work. What do I need to do to get this macro to work with only one remote key press? PS, I have setup Short press and Long press with good results: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Flirc\flirc_util.exe" record play/pause "C:\Program Files (x86)\Flirc\flirc_util.exe" record_lp stop Short press and long press works as advertised. Best regards and I'm happy to have found Flirc! //Peter

I'm trying to use some of the functions in flirc_util.exe to try to get a list of the HID codes that I've previously programmed, but I'm getting weird outputs that seem to be errors. These were recorded mostly with the command line tool using record_api, in order to record HID keys that the GUI doesn't seem to make available. The keys themselves work just fine, I just want to remember which codes I used so I can switch to a new remote. No, you record the same remote button twice. First time you need to use record with a key that you want as a 1st in a macro (for example F10). Then you do (for example) record_macro F11 and then press the same remote button as for the F10. The record_macro command adds another keyboard key on top of already recorded ones for the same remote button. BTW I usually differentiate between keyboard and remote like this:keys on the keyboard -> keys (or keyboard keys); keys on the remote -> buttons (or remote buttons). As for the remote setup, I'm not 100% sure as I don't have this model. I have few remotes from the UEI (a company behind the One For All brand) and they all share some features, but this one seems to be quite unusual. Anyway, according to the manual, the remote supports up to 3 physical devices and assigns buttons by color to these devices (third one is an audio device and overrides the volume buttons). You should read through the manual to fully understand what your remote is capable of. Setup codes set specific part of the remote, not just a single button. Even if you set your remote using the setup codes from the book, you can always overwrite specific buttons by recording a signal from another remote. Recorded signals take precedence before an original function.

I would like to program one of my remote's keys to generate Ctrl+P, which I believe should be possible using flirc_util's record_api command with arg1 = 1 for Left Control and arg2 = p. But when I type this command, I get the message: hit a key on the remote to be paired with 1 0 (Note the 0, not P) If I then press a remote key and then test the result using xev, I find that the key only generates Ctrl_L up/down events. No P. This is with version 1.0.6 on Mythbuntu 13.10 saucy. I have been able to record over 60 keys using "flirc_util record char", including pageup/down, return, space, etc. I just can't get Ctrl+P. I also noticed that "flirc_util settings" doesn't show the ctrl key in the list of recorded keys, although the count of recorded keys increases after I record that key.

Hi! I just got my flirc and am loving it so far. I have one issue that I can't seem to figure out however. Before I had my flirc, I would put my PC (Win 7 x64, BIOS set to S3) to sleep and it would stay that way until I sent a WOL command. No problem. Now after plugging in my flirc, as soon as the PC goes to sleep it wakes up right away. Unplugging the flirc again and and trying to get the PC to sleep (and stay that way) works. I do have the Sleep Detection setting enabled in the flirc GUI. What can be causing this? Any tips on where/what settings I should be checking? Any help is appreciated, Thank you!

Every flirc_util command I type is prefaced with over 400 lines of irrelevant messages. Most lines start with [V] lib/libtransport/hic.c Finally after giving the info (e.g. version number) you'll see lib/libflirc/flirc_driver.c fl_close_device.. closing device, freeing device. What do I need to do to get this back to the standard output without all of the extras? Running on Raspberry pi with latest version of the OS.

You should update your harmony software. I was able to locate a build in profile for Flirc. Use xbmc as the model when prompted. This isn't home free, you would still need to remap with Flirc to match with controls that will work both on fire tv and xbmc. I used the wiki site for key mapping. The harmony software also has context menu command build in so you don't have to do any of the command line stuff.

Thanks for the gifts you sent! Really not necessary! As I mentioned, I haven't found a good solution to the "Home" command for fireTV. Anything that I tried, either doesn't work or works like a "Back" command. LMK if I can help, and thanks again, Tony

I recently bought my 1st Flirc USB and I haven't been able to get it to work. Before pairing a remote, I upgraded the firmware. Using the Flirc GUI I've been able to pair my remote with Flirc. The GUI says "recorded successfully" when paring a key. After pairing the remote, I don't know what to do next. It seems the Flirc device should be useable at this point but nothing happens when I try to use it. Everything seems normal inside the Flirc GUI but outside that, I'm not seeing any keypresses. I originally set things up on a Linux PC. When that didn't work, I redid everything on my Macbook. I'm having the same results on both platforms. Am I doing something wrong or is my Flirc device defective? I've attached the output of the flirc_util settings command. flirc_settings.txt

I have 2 Windows 7 Media Center computers in the same room. One is normally the media server, and the other is normally my PC, but sometimes I need to switch if I've recorded something that is cable card encrypted, copy protected as play once, and gets recorded on my PC, but not on my media server. The system includes 2 SiliconDust HDHomeRun Primes, a Pioneer Elite Receiver/ Home Theater, a regular, generic, non-programmable, HP WMC remote and a Lenovo WMC USB IR receiver, and it all works ok. I also have a Harmony 700. I now also have added an HP MediaSmart TV Remote (remote only, no HP TV - P/N 5189-3683) that can be programmed for various CBL, DVD, AVR and AUX devices, as well as the non-configurable HP MediaSmart TV Profile. It apparently uses the XBMC command set for the TV Profile from what I've read, which apparently is different than the WMC command set, as the remote does not control my WMC server using that TV Profile. It can achieve somewhat limited WMC functionality by loading the right code into one of the other CBL, DVD, AVR, or AUX profiles, but the limited usage is pre-determined by the hardware in so much as what buttons and functions actually do anything in those modes. The remote: HP MediaSmart TV RC2285202/01 P/N 5189-3683: http://www.giftspub.com/HP%20MediaSmart%20TV%20remote%20setting%20manual.pdf The MediaSmart TV that the remote was made for: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&product=3369894&dlc=en&docname=c01445164#N1099 So, my plan is to use FLIRC to work with TV Profile on that MediaSmart remote, to operate my WMC 7 media server. I'll use the standard WMC remote system with my other PC. Are my assumptions correct and should that work? If so, this should then allow my Harmony 700 remote to be able to control either WMC and everything else in the system, and I'll also have the dedicated remotes, one for each WMC, and the remotes should not interfere with each other.

Hi Jason, this evening I tried your suggestion with a WAKE command registered and I enabled the "sleep detection" and... I can confirm that this command works also from the full shutdown!!! I tried it without big hope because on the previous posts on this forum I was able oonly to get confirmation about wakeup from sleep S3 state and never about S5 state (Shutdown). Now I can confirm to everyone: with the new motherboards like the Asrock I have, FLIRC is able to completely Power ON and of course power OFF the PC!! This is perfect and lovely! Last improvement to become an amazing product would be to be able to program the same key for both Power ON and Power OFF, the current proposal requires a very complex procedure to emulate this feature. The post can be closed, now. Very good job! Thanks

Hello, when I try to map the key from the remote with a keyboard key I have following problem. When I map a new key the last key would be overwritten. I got the message "Button already exists". I can map one key only, actually. So I'm new to using the Flirc and bought it for my second HTPC build as it had no built in IR receiver. I'm running windows 10 64 bit and have Kodi installed. I'm using a Harmony 250 and the only things that needs to be controlled are a TV and a HTPC. I had some issues with the Harmony and used the Flirc to map some keyboard letters to the harmony coloured keys. However, I ran into issues on how to turn the PC and TV on and off. The pc is setup to always go to sleep and not turn off or hibernate. I mapped the Flirc keyboard "Wake" button to the Harmony 250 Power button and woke the PC but not the TV. Pressing it while everything is on , switches the TV off but leaves the PC on. Any step by step instructions on how to turn the TV off and put the pc into sleep mode and then wake both up ? Can it be done with a single power button on the harmony remote ? One additional question, my other HTPC uses a Harmony 650 and when I power it off I also send the "Stop" command. This jumps Kodi out of live TV and prevents it from buffer recording live TV when it should be powering down. Can something similar be done with the Flirc ? I'm wondering if that might be the reason the PC did not enter sleep as it was still buffer recording live TV Erick

Spoke too soon. Tried to set up with Harmony instead of the remote I was using to test & the PC will no longer wake from sleep. Keyboard wake in enabled in Device Manager & checked with Powercfg. Confirmed the Keyboard ID of Flirc & that wake is enabled for it with Powercfg. Not sure how but yesterday I had it sleeping & waking from the same IR button. Today I cannot set the same command to both Media Keys & Full Keyboard, as the software complains that the key is already in use. But even using separate commands the PC won't wake. I cleared all config & only set Wake in Full Keyboard & still it won't wake. The PC wakes every time from a USB mouse & also from a wireless USB keyboard. Further, the device log reports an error requiring an update to firmware 4.1.0. Attempting to force an update tells me that 3.9.0 is installed & the latest version. Can't find a firmware download on the site to update manually.

do you guys have sleep detect enabled in the GUI? Also, make sure you haven't recorded any noise. use the commandline, flirc_util settings. Look for duplicates. Delete all duplicates and re-record those keys. When receiving a signal, flirc will send a character to the machine. Regardless of the state of the machine. Sleep detect tells flirc to check if the computer is sleeping. If it is sleeping, do not send any keys unless it's the 'wake-up' command. Further, if you don't have sleep detect, and have recorded erroneous noise, then the machine will see noise as a false signal, and send a command to the computer. ** EDIT ** TLDR; enable sleep detect in the gui -

Sorry, I left out an important piece. I am loading an app on FireTV to control it. That app is Slingplayer for FireTV. The app does have some shortcut keys but using a usb keyboard only some of them work and some are doing the wrong command action. I am working with Jason on this and Sling Media to resolve my app issues too. I actually got Flirc to learn many things and piled on top of keyboard Jodi and Panasonic tv. I have about 6 features that are not working. The big ones for guide and the mostly. If you have any connection with slingmedia or know of app enhanced updates others have used that be awesome. Thx for your help. -
I am tying to setup a Flirc with my Nvidia Shield TV and Harmony remote, and have a some questions, as I am having difficulty getting it to work. 1. Is this the preferred or best working configuration for the most complete and accurate control of the Shield? I know the file suffix needs to be changed to .fcfg, and I have done that. I am using a Harmony Elite which is a hub based remote. I have chosen the ViewTv AT-163 device (which shows up as DVR type device in the app), the Harmony app, appears to have accepted that make/model. However, when operating the remote it doesn't appear it is a working profile as neither the remote nor the hub seem to be sending any recognizable infrared commands. I have operated the remote in device function with the ViewTv selected, and in activity function with activity built using the ViewTV and it doesn't appear to be sending any recognizable commands. When trying to record even a number key while pointing the Flirc at the hub or the remote, the Flirc does not receive a command. But the remote will turn on/off my tv, change inputs, etc. so I know the infrared is functioning okay. 2. Has anybody used the Harmony Elite remote and hub to setup the Flirc for use with the Shield, if so what device profile did you use? Did this device profile work with the above configuration file? I know I can use the bluetooth function of the Harmony hub to control the Shield and have it programmed that way now, but the bluetooth is buggy for some reason and Harmony hasn't offered any help or suggestions for resolving this issue. Hence the attempt to use the Flirc and infrared. 3. If that is the preferred configuration, do I just download the file to my computer then in the Flirc app: File -> Load Configuration -> then just select the downloaded configuration file? Does the Flirc autosave? I have done what I described in item 3 above and the shield doesn't not respond. Am I missing a step? I apologize for the long post, and would greatly appreciate any help in getting my Harmony Elite remote and Flirc to work with my Nvidia Shield. Thanks in advance!

Finally, finally, finally with the latest Feb 13, 2017 update EVERYTHING works perfectly - Flirc + Amazon Fire TV and URC MX-990 !!! Before this latest update, I had tried over a dozen times to get commands working, but would get a couple or a few to work , but never all at the same time. I had tried 3 different remote controls to lean from flir,c but never could get them to learn over to my URC MX-990. I was ready to throw the flirc in the trash can. Along comes this latest update yesterday and ALL is solved! Perfect the first time, EVERY command! Thank you Jason!
