The Shield does not have an IR receiver. So you will need a Flirc USB and possibly a USB-A MALE to USB-A FEMALE cable. The cable will be used to move the Flirc USB in line of sight for the Skip 1s to send the IR signal.
nomotion
Appreciate the tip. I have one in the mail. After I plug in the USB the remote is already configured to know how to use the USB for the shield?
ytsejam1138
Not exactly, you need to plug it into a computer first and set the remote as a Shield remote. The software can be downloaded from here: https://flirc.tv/products/flirc-usb-receiver?variant=43513067569384#spec2
nomotion
Thanks for answering my dumb questions. I programmed the USB as the shield remote. I used the skip 1s remote and pressed the buttons as it requested. I have connected the USB to the shield using an extender that has the sensor pointing directly at the sofa. Now my problem is it's extremely unreliable. 50% of the time it ceases to work when I press a button on the remote. Any ideas? Also, why does the skip 1s have a profile for the shield if the flirc app has you program the remote anyways? nomotion
After some fooling around. I noticed communication stops and starts in intervals. It works for a few seconds then freezes for a few.
