  1. Hi, I tried this on OUYA, and i get a message "The FLIRC addon is not designed to run on your hardware"

Yes, I actually don't have a library compiled for the architecture inside the ouya. What's funny is that inside the ouya is a NVIDIA Tegra, and I work at NVIDIA full time, so I should probably get that done.

Just do the pairing on another machine, and plug it into the Ouya when it's done, it should work after that until I get support for it.

  2. Yes, flirc's ability to pair buttons is independent of what devices you have.

Yes, you will have conflict if you use a samsung TV device to pair with your flirc and you have a samsung TV. However, some TV's will ignore irrelevant buttons should they not be on the contextual menu that applies. For example, on my panasonic TV, it will ignore upldown/left/right when not in a menu setting, although my samsung device will say, "error" on my television. Pretty dumb.

    Does that make sense?

  3. Yes, you are basically correct. Sleep Detect tells flirc to make sure the computer is not sleeping, if the computer is sleeping all keys will be ignored. You must use the 'wake' key to wake the key from suspend (that's the only key that will do this), and then once the computer is on, flirc will detect this, and operate as expected.

I don't have the ability to suspend the machine (yet).

  4. Try upgrading to the latest firmware.

    http://forum.flirc.tv/index.php?/forum/70-v100-rc4/

Just download the package, open the GUI, your firmware will automatically be updated. Once updated, you can enable a sleep detection feature to help prevent automatically waking up the computer. It's in the GUI, File->Advanced.

But, you must also pair a wake up key, which will tell the machine to wake up as all other buttons will be ignored while the computer is sleeping. The wake key is on the keyboard view of the GUI.

Let me know if that helps. I believe it should do the trick.

  5. I can't reload firmware as Flirc sw shows DISCONNECTED all the time. And "Upgrade firmware" menu item do not respond - actually nothing happens when i press it.

P.S. To remind - mine stopped working because sw crashed during fw upgrade to 1.0.

Send me an email at flirc.tv/support, I'll get you an RMA and I'd like to take a look at this unit. Really sorry for the delay.

  6. I have 3 flircs; two in use and the third I am just setting up. My first is for my htpc in basement which I have had for about 2 years with no issues. The second is in the 2nd floor bedroom which my wife uses for her htpc. The one in the bedroom until just recently never worked right due to phantom and run away key presses. My wife just basically gave up. I tried everything to fix the problem including swapping the two flircs with no luck. Eventually I came to the conclusion that it was somehow environmental and that stay light, sun light and/or reflections were the cause. Finally about a month ago I tried one more time to figure out the issue and this time I did. It now works perfectly and has been for a month.

I see many people here complain about very similar issues so I'll share my fix and maybe it will help others.

Basically. I put shades on the flirc. It is far too sensitive to stray light and reflections. I did this two ways.

    1) I took an old DVD player and removed the plastic piece on the front where the display and IR receiver are. It is a coated piece of opaque plastic about 1/8 of an inch thick. I used a fine hack saw to cut a tiny piece that fit nicely over the front of the flirc. If you look through this piece at a lamp you will see it blocks much of the light. The plastic is opaque but also has a coating on one side. I expect it has special properties to block many wavelengths expect for the one used by the IR receiver.

    2) I then took black electrical tape and completely taped up the entire flirc and even left about 1/4 inch of tape over hang the front of the plastic piece I put on the front.

Finally I positioned the modified flirc in a recessed place a couple of inches behind the TV stand.

My yearlong flirc issues are now solved. It works perfectly and the wife is happy. Even with the thick black piece of plastic, the flirc functions perfectly from across the room. No sensitivity is lost.

I hope this might help some of you.

Would love to see a picture of this. Thanks so much for sharing and helping others.

  7. I have the same issue and glad others have it too. I thought it was related to ambiant light in the room. I turned on and off lights etc. Still had the same issue. It does make it unusable. I am using Harmony 650, I have the flirc device from the my harmony site. I fiddled only with the delay values and such on the Flirc device but it didn't impact it at all.

It is just odd that it is so temperamental. Help!

I got my forum bugs messed up. Have you guys tried the beta? I have a fix for this. You have to enable the feature in the CLI. The next GUI release will be able to manipulate these settings from within the app. No more commandline.

  8. I'm also having this issue. The new firmware seems to have triggered it. Now I get key repeats constantly and it makes the remote unusable.

flirc_util can no longer connect to the flirc either, reporting this error on the issue of any command:

Warning: cannot open USB devicedevice disconnected, can't run command
Strange because the OS seems to pick it up fine. From dmesg:

    usb 1-1.3: new low-speed USB device number 7 using dwc_otgusb 1-1.3: New USB device found, idVendor=20a0, idProduct=0001usb 1-1.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0usb 1-1.3: Product: flircusb 1-1.3: Manufacturer: flirc.tvinput: flirc.tv flirc as /devices/platform/bcm2708_usb/usb1/1-1/1-1.3/1-1.3:1.0/input/input4hid-generic 0003:20A0:0001.0005: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.01 Keyboard [flirc.tv flirc] on usb-bcm2708_usb-1.3/input0

This is on the raspberry pi also

This looks fine. I'll push an update soon that hopefully addresses this.

@timmeh, are you using harmony too? The harmony flirc profile?

    Which harmony do you have?

  9. It will work just like the desktop app. There are two views, a minimalistic view and a advanced keyboard shortcut view. Check out the video on the front page of flirc.

You will need the flirc device before anything will work.

Let us know if you have problems or more questions once you get it.

    Thanks Joey.
