  1. Update - My brother received his Flirc the other day and I set his up exactly the same as mine except I did not map and back command - I left the Flirc Kodi settings exactly as they were when the device was added. His Harmony One Exit button sends a Return command to the Flirc, just as it was automatically added, and it works fine. I then erased everything involving the Flirc and Watch Fire TV Activity in the Harmony software and erased any commands I set in the Flirc program, then re-added everything all over again and tested, and I am getting the same result as I had before! I does not make much sense! The command is correct and the fire tv does go back a menu, it just seems like it is processing it in a way that makes it register for a fraction of a second and sometimes it jumps back 2 steps. I guess I will have to use it the way it is.
  2. Hi Everyone, I am sorry if this was answered somewhere else but I tried very hard to search before posting. I have a Harmony One and new Fire TV. I setup my Flirc using the Harmony software, adding the Flirc as a media center PC and the device name XBMC. I have everything set up working, but for some reason, only the return button acts strange. The signal it sends is correct but it sends it SO fast that sometimes it does not respond correctly (mostly in a double press way). I can see the difference in how it acts with the Fire TV because the white LED on front lights with every button press - It will come on for a half second then turn off. But when I press the return button, it flashes for a millisecond. I have already adjusted input key delays and all of those settings in the harmony software and Flirc software and everything else works fine - it is only with the return button! I have tried mapping that button to a 'Back' command in the Harmony software (telling the harmony that I want the 'Prev' button to send a 'Back' command to the Flirc) and it yields the same result. I have also tried using a different device (dummy TV) to map a command to that button. It must be something with how the Flirc is telling the Fire TV to go 'back'. Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone had it and fixed it? Is there a keyboard button I can use instead of the preset profile for the Flirc in Harmony? This is a great device and everything works great except this one button and how it is being received. Thank you very much in advance for you help!
  3. 4. Hi all .... So .. i'm new to FLIRC .. but not new to HTPCs (and building PCs in general) .. i've also read a lot about FLIRC. Anyway .. i'm changing my current HTPC setup, but am keeping my streacom case - i've ordered an FLIRC-SE which will be replacing streacom's IR header ... one very important feature for me is the ability to power on the PC via remote (specifically a harmony ultimate & hub). So - having read quite a bit on FLIRC i was planning the following: mobo to have USB power on stand by enabledupgrade FLIRC-SE to latest fw and make sure internal profiles are enabledadd FLIRC/KODI device to harmonySo ... in theory that should already give me 99% of functionality (right?!) ... what i'm not sure on is powering on - the FLIRC/KODI profile doesn't seem to include a PowerON command (PowerOFF is present) ... do I need to program a PowerON button myself? If I understood correctly - if I don't do that any IR signal will turn the PC on ... or is it any button from FLIRC/KODI profile? That might be acceptable. Cheers all!
  5. Hi, There are two different "power on" options with Flirc-SE. One is an USB wake up (which is also available in normal Flirc) and the second is a hardware power on switch (uses power on button header on the mobo). Now the first one behaves like you've said. Any button known to Flirc will wake up the PC unless the wake key is programmed. On the other hand the power on button doesn't work like that. You need to specifically record it. I don't know if it's already been added to the GUI so you probably need to record the key using flirc-util command line utility. I won't help you with Harmony side though because I don't have nor use one. You probably can add extra keys in some ways to work as a Power On button. One thing you need to remember is that the power on button is not stateful right now. If you press the button associated with this function it will trigger power button switch when the power is off but also when it is on which, depending on your power configuration, can turn the PC off or put it into sleep.
  6. The stock Flirc profile for Harmony must be misaligned as I get this too. The default is no power settings at all on Flirc/Kodi profile with "power off" being the only command. If you change the power profile in Harmony to use this by putting the system into suspend (via Kodi settings power off = suspend) it doesn't work, it will always wake the system no matter what you select on the remote. If you don't use the built in power off command in the Harmony Flirc profile and instead do as you suggest by setting power off = number 0 then set this to Ctrl+End in Flirc software the system works as expected going to sleep when selecting another activity or powering off. So there must be some difference between stock "power off" and "ctrl+end" the Harmony Flirc profile is sending the power off twice or something like that. Update: After some research I have found a better way that makes suspend work in any area of Kodi UI, wrote a guide on how to do it all.
  7. Hello, I have searched for an answer to my problem but no luck finding a resolution. I setup my Flirc with my Asus Chromebox Openelec HTPC. I setup an Acitivity on my Harmony One to "Watch Videos" and it works perfectly to wake/suspend the HTPC. But when I switch to another activity (Watch TV or Play PS4), it will also wake up the HTPC. Here's what I did: In the Harmony software, I added a new device under Computer>Media Center PC>Flirc>KodiUnder "Advanced setup for this device", I set it to "turn this device off when not in use", selected "one button on remote to turning it both On and Off", and set the command used to "PowerOff".I created an activity to "Watch Videos" using the Flirc device and added an additional customized button that I called "Suspend/Wake" that will send a command from the Flirc to "PowerOff"I used the Flirc software to map Ctrl + End to the customized button that I just created ("Suspend/Wake"). For some reason, it used to work with Ctrl + F12 but it suddenly stopped working. I did a search and found Ctrl + End works but only from the main screen of Kodi. I thought Ctrl + F12 worked in any screen in Kodi but I could be wrong.I double-checked and all my activities do not use the FlircKodi device except "Watch Videos". I also created a new activity to "Play PS4" thinking there was an issue with the old activity but it still wakes up the HTPC. Does anybody know what I did wrong to wake up the HTPC even though I'm watching/playing a different activity?
  8. Thanks for reporting this. I'm hoping they'll find a suitable command for this soon, or really, considering how annoying it is to repeatedly hit "Back" just to exit an app, I might just return my Flirc for the time being and wait to repurchase when this issue is resolved.
  9. Hi Jason, From a troubleshooting perspective, it would be awesome to have a page within the PC app that shows exactly what it is receiving from the remote and if its a recognized command. I went through each profile within the app trying to figure out if the Flirc was picking up the command from the remote or not. Just a suggestion, really happy with the whole set up now that I got through this.
  10. I solved it. In step #3, the additional customized button on my Harmony remote that I called "Suspend/Wake" is now just set to "0" (not "PowerOff"). In the Flirc GUI, I then set this button to Ctrl + End. In my previous setup, I was sending the "PowerOff" command twice when switching between activities.
  11. The Wake button is for waking PC from sleep. It doesn't operate the power button connection to the motherboard. You need to use command line utility (flirc_util) the way you've mentioned in your post to record the power button, which is currently not available in GUI. In OS X you just drop the .exe extension. I don't know OS X specifics so I don't know if the flirc_util is in PATH and can be accessed from anywhere or if you need first to change the working directory to one containing the executable.
  12. I've been using the flirc with an Intel NUC Windows 10 and a Harmony remote. I have the wake button from the keyboard profile paired, and the power button from the media keys profile paired. The power button will put the PC into sleep mode, and the wake button will wake it back up, but neither will do both. I've tried adjusting BIOS settings for USB waking the PC, and driver settings in Win10 for allowing devices to wake the PC from suspend. Since the wake button is working to bring the PC out of sleep, would it be possible to setup the wake button to send the sleep command when the PC is running? Thanks
  13. Hello - Totally new user here. I'm trying to set up a Flirc to use my Harmony controller per the writeup @ https://lanzerdiy.wordpress.com/2015/02/10/harmony-remote-and-ps4-solution-using-flirc/ I used MyHarmony to add device type Flirc / XBMC. In Windows 10, I can't get flirc_util to talk to the USB port. It sounds like that may be a known issue? So I just installed the software on OSX 10.10.4. Things appear to be running at this point. To start, I wiped any configuration data I had on the device using the GUI, then closed the GUI. I went to record the keys that aren't available on the Flirc keyboard. In the example in the URL above, he uses the Menu key for pause, and the record key for print_screen. In both cases, the Flirc didn't see the key pressed on the Harmony. Just to test and close out the command w/o a Ctrl C, I used one of the color keys to record the command and flirc_util returned with a "Key recorded" message. Anyone else run into something like this? Thanks.
  14. Just to be clear - I was trying to record using the commands : flirc_util record pause [menu] flirc_util record print_screen [record In both cases, the command line just sat there at : Press any button on the remote to link it with 'print_screen' And did nothing until I hit one of the color keys.
  15. Some additional comments: I own a WDTV Live Media Streamer that uses IR. When used with it's own remote or a Harmony 650, it responds to every command even when not pointing directly at the device. The problem with this device is it's LAG. You cannot press keys too fast or it misses the command. I also use a Logitech K400 Wireless media keyboard / trackpad. This uses RF. The response is 100% the same as using a wired keyboard. No lag and it will respond to very fast keystrokes. Once a person uses this device, it's very hard to use an IR device with lag and a narrow beam.
  16. I don't understand your question. I programmed the Harmony 510 to control my Sony TV, Pioneer AVR and Microsoft Media Center Extender. I then had to assign the key functions for every key used in the Activity I called "Kodi". I programmed every key to perform a function. After finished, I used the Flirc software to assign each key a function using the full keyboard template. Again, every key worked as expected. That's not the problem. The problem is the lack of response from the Harmony 510 remote and Flirc dongle. I have to point it EXACTLY at the dongle or it won't work. Then I have to press the remote's keys more than once (sometimes) to execute the command. I moved the Flirc dongle to front and rear NUC USB ports and used an extension cable and re-positioned the dongle in many different positions and locations. All had the same exact results. Very poor lack of response. I'm not the kind of person that wants to try different fixes, patches or whatever to use a device made to work as-is. I should be receiving an HP MCE IR Receiver later today to use with both my Harmony Remotes. Let's hope it does better than the Flirc.
  17. Solved! According to Logitech, it's not possible to issue continuous commands by pressing and holding the button, when you have assigned different functions for this button depending on whether you short or long press the button: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Harmony-Hub-Based-Remotes/X1-box-holding-down-page-up-down-button-doesn-t-scroll-through/m-p/1352505#M17478 Based on the above I assigned the Page Up command for both the short and long presses of the ChannelUp/PageUp remote button on MyHarmony and this fixed it.
  18. Hi yawor, thanks for your time. What I meant was that I believe that the Flirc profiles (Kodi and Full Keyboard) have the wrong commands for Page Up and Page Down themselves. I did what you said to to confirm that this applies to the Full Keyboard profile as well; Fired up Flirc GUI, went to Full Keyboard profile, pressed the Page Up button and then pressed the respective Page Up command on my Harmony Ultimate Remote. It recorded successfully but the result is the same; Kodi does not do a Page Up or a Page Down when I press the respective remote buttons. Is there a way to teach the correct commands to the Flirc GUI profiles? Can I click on these two buttons on the profile, erase them and then simply press the Page Up and Page Down keyboard keys to reprogram?
  19. This may be repeated information, but here is how I got my old Harmony One working with my new FireTV. This required no command line configuration, and no copying anything to the FireTV. It seems like the new Flirc firmware addressed many of these things, so most of the help I was looking for in setting it up were out of date. I got the FireTV mainly to use Kodi, so my setup was centered on that use case. I had no idea that you could use the Flirc Windows GUI to set up multiple, co-existing profiles on the Flirc - I read that here on these forums, and it made setup easier for me. I have the latest firmware loaded into the Flirc, the latest update to the FireTV, and the current downloadable version of Kodi as of August 7, 2015. With that latest configuration, setup was actually quite straightforward...here are the steps I took 1) Add the Flirc device to the Harmony remote. Using the Harmony desktop software for my ancient Harmony One, I was able to add the Flirc as a Windows Media Center device (Add Device -> Device Type = Windows Media Center, Manufacturer = Flirc, Model = Kodi 2) Create an activity for "FireTV" I also modified the activity to send a "0" command to the FireTV when I switch to that activity. The "0" button doesn't seem to have any real effect other that waking it up. I didn't want to use "Select" because the One isn't very smart about not sending commands to devices that are already awake, and I didn't want switching to the FireTV from say the TiVo to execute a "Select" command not knowing what it may be selecting... :) 3) Use my WDLive SMP remote to add "learned" commands for "Menu", and "Home", and "Back", and assign them to the desired buttons on the Harmony. The Flirc configuration for the One within the Harmony software didn't program these buttons to send any IR signal (I may have screwed up but nothing happened on the Flirc GUI when I pressed those buttons, so I assume that no signal was sent). Learning any old IR command from any other remote should work, but I happened to have a WDLive remote handy so I used it. 4) Update the Harmony One remote. 5) Plug the Flirc into the PC and set up the FireTV profile first (in the Flirc GUI). For my case, I created a virtual button on the LCD of the One called "Home" and used it for "Home". I used the hard buttons "Previous" and "Menu" for "Back" and "Context Menu" respectively. 6) After configuring the FireTV in the Flirc GUI, set up the Kodi profile. I did not reuse the buttons I used to program the FireTV profile with. After that, I connected the Flirc to the FireTV using a USB extender I had lying around and everything worked (except for voice commands which I knew wouldn't work anyway). I used this configuration all last night and didn't encounter any repeated button presses, missed presses, or anything. The response was snappy, and it worked for navigating the FireTV's native UI as well as Kodi's UI. Anyway, this little device is pretty sweet. Would have been sweeter if I got the FireTV first (I got a Fire Stick and returned it to get the FireTV) 'cuz when I had the Stick, the Flirc was on sale on Amazon for $14.99 . Oh well...it was still worth the $19.99 I paid for it!
  20. Just to confirm, I have tried in the Command Prompt 'flirc_util.exe record power', upon receiving message 'Successfully recorded button' back, I press the recorded button and the machine does nothing :-( I don't understand where or why it's not working.
  21. yawor/Jason, do you have a command line to map to Media home key? I just bought Flirc and Nexus player and integrate them with my universal remote URC-880. I got every keys mapped and working on my URC-880 except Nexus Home button, which can exit any apps and go back to Nexus home screen. Logitech keyboard Media home key can also work the same as Nexus home button. I have a workaround for this home button: 1) Alt + Esc take me to Nexus home screen for all app (youtube, Kodi), except Netflix 2) To exit Netflix, I use F12 key but it has a confirmation pop-up (No/Yes). to create an one-click button to exit Netflix, I combine F12 and right navigation key (to select 'yes' using URC-880). The workaround above is working but not as seemless as using ONE home Nexus button (or keyboard media home key). thanks to yawor from another thread. I used command line to map window key. combing window key and right navigation key into one search button on my URC-880, I can launch search globally from anywhere (no matter what app you are in).
  22. Using FLIRC to control my new Macbook Pro retina with old white Apple remote. Using FLIRC I am able to start/stop movie in Quicktime Player, start presentations and advance forward and back in Keynote, and I can increase and decrease the volume system-wide. This setting also allows you to go forward and back in PowerPoint, but the play button doesn't start the slide show. It was a bit trying to get it to work because the f10 &f11 cannot be assigned to control the volume, so this should save you some frustration. 1) Plug in FLIRC 2) Dismiss/ignore any prompt that tells you about an unrecognizable keyboard 3) Open FLIRC app 4) It should default showing the minimalist controller layout (left, right,up, down, enter, back) 5) DONT press the GO! button to start the automated process 6) Click on the green left arrow and then click on the left direction on the remote 7) Click on the green right arrow and then click on the right direction on the remote 8) Go to the controller menu and select MEDIA KEYS (this refers to media keys and not just a 'media computer' like it suggests) 9) Click on the gray play button and then click on the play button on the remote 10) Click on the gray volume up button and then click up on the remote 11) Click on the gray volume down button and then click down on the remote There you are done! I noticed that Powerpoint 365 uses shift command return to play the slide show. If you wish to map the MENU button on the remote to start your Powerpoint, here is how you do that 1) Go FULL KEYBOARD under CONTROLLERS 2) Click on the gray virtual keyboard shift command return 3) Click on the menu button on the remote, this should allow you to start Powerpoint presentations using that button
  23. Hello, this is my first post, and it should definitely start with a big hurray to Flirc and it's developer(s?) as my Harmony One is finally able to control my recently purchased Fire TV, thanks to this little fellow! This said, as I'm new to Flirc, I encountered some problems, raising the following questions: 1) I can remap the commands of a selected profile regardless of whether 'Builtin profiles' is ticked or not. So what's the difference? Finally figured it out myself. Unticking 'Builtin profiles' disables the unmodified pre-mapped commands. Not sure what this is good for though ... 2) I understand that the Inter-key delay determines how long Flirc waits before sending the next keystroke to the device. But what about IR signals receivced in the meantime? Do the corresponding keystrokes become discarded? Or queued? It's hard to tell just by looking at the screen... 3) No big deal, but with "Back" and "Channel prev" the AFTV profile holds two commands which utter the same keystroke, for no obvious reason...? 4) With AFTV's original remote, keeping the home key pressed for a few seconds a menu appears which provides three useful shortcuts: putting the device to sleep, screen mirroring, and settings. This long press-function is unfortunately not supported by the Home command of Flircs AFTV profile. However during testing I discovered it somewhere else. Unfortunately I removed the command at some point, and now I'm unable to relocate it. So I need some help here... Yes! I rediscovered it! Clearing the configuration made the PowerDn-Button of the Kodi profile work the way I remembered. Now the mapped Ctrl+F12 key-down events become constantly fired until the button on the remote is released, making it work exactly like AFTVs own home key!! As far as I understand this specific behaviour is hardcoded into the Flirc firmware, and can't be manually imported into the AFTV profile. So please fix this!! 5) The AFTV profile definitely lacks any dedicated wake up/sleep command! For waking up the device, it seems just about any keystroke can be send to the device, so finding one which Fire TV doesn't process any further should be easy. However, It's not that easy to map the keystroke to an additional ir signal if you don't have some otherwise useless remote control flying around somewhere in your home. Same applies to the missing sleep command of course. This is why it should be provided by the profile. This is something essential IMHO. 6) Speaking about the sleep command, I added (well, had to add...) the Wake/Suspend command provided by Flirc's Media Keys controller to the AFTV profile. On leaving the AFTV activity it puts my box to sleep. Works fine, however, since it's a toggle it's somewhat unreliable. Does anyone know if there's a dedicated keystroke that puts the AFTV to sleep, without the risk to wake it up instead? 6b) If the answer is no, is it possible to detect the active/standby state of the Fire TV box instead? Because this could be used to make the power on/off toggle split into two seperate dedicated buttons, which would be awesome!. Thank you for any replies!! :)
  24. If I plug in the Flirc USB Ir device to a Raspberry Pi running OpenElec or OSMC will I be able to send a command to start my Raspberry Pi when it's shutdown?
  25. I bought the FLIRC from "the_pi_hut" on Ebay and since day one I have one and the same problem. Problem: the FLIRC repeats the command given in quick succession after initial command. An example: I press the key that has assigned backwards-key, KODI reacts normally and then, half a second later, repeats the key-press in a fast succession until it's in the main menu. The OpenELEC KODI is running on the ASUS Chromebox Although I have not been using it extensively on the computer, it has yet to do the same in the windows explorer. I would have to install KODI onto my computer and test it extensively, but I was hoping someone here maybe had an idea what could be causing that. Is my FLIRC broken? Is it the incompatibility between FLIRC and KODI/ASUS combo? (I must say it never happened with the keyboard on the KODI/ASUS combo) And btw. I tried two remotes, both were working perfectly with my old media player and my old receiver. Many thanks. Kosta
