  1. Hi Chavez, welcome to the forums,

Don't worry we'll get Flirc working for you.

Possibly the easiest thing to do would be to test if it is your XBMCbuntu machine or flirc. Try plugging flirc into another machine and see if the same behavior is observed.

One of the other moderators - Digitalb0y - wrote a guide on techinical Flirc stuff in XBMCbuntu so I assume it's working fine for him ().

    Please post back what happens,

    pleasant regards,

    Chris!

  2. seems like the MC codes and the microsoft ones utilise all the buttons, but some some really annoying reason I have to hit the keys 2-3 times for them to respond. Is there a fix?

Probably as each of the 2 - 3 button presses sends out different packets. You can try recording each one:

(tip is right at the bottom)

Sorry I can't be more helpful for your particular remote

    Chris!

  3. Hi xabih,

By Lirc do you mean Flirc?

Flirc + another keyboard (connected via mini-DIN) should work fine.

The easiest way to test if Flirc + [any combination] would work is to use a USB keyboard in place of the Flirc.

If USB keyboard + [any combination] works then Flirc + [any combination] will work

Let me know if I haven't answered the question,

    Pleasant regards,

    Chris!

    (p.s. welcome to the forums)

  4. In my current set up, I have F2 mapped and that is working well to put the PC to sleep. I'm using V1 firmware, so any button press wakes up the PC. This is working too well though, because when I press the Watch TV button on the Harmony remote, the PC wakes up. It is like the Harmony remote sends a signal to the PC thinking it is part of the activity although it isn't, just the TV and cable box are part of the Watch TV activity and should be powered on.

Is there a setting within the Harmony software I should be looking for?

In this case I think it is the Flirc responding to any IR signal (so nothing the harmony can do about it). Your best bet would be to wait for Jason to release a firmware where the wake up only occurs from one specified button. I have not ETA on this though.

I'm assuming the Flirc is doing great otherwise?

    Pleasant regards,

    Chris!

  5. We generally have recommended TV profiles to use flirc as they have desirable scrolling frequency. Although I haven't tested other devices very comprehensively.

It may be worth experimenting with other device profiles to see if you get a good usage model out of flirc and harmony. Post back here if you do find a better fit.

    Pleasant regards

  6. Hi iainmacleod,

It may be that the code the signal the remote is sending is the same or similar. If you are using the GUI (which from the command line prompt you provided above you're not) it will show that the button is already recorded. Two things to try:

    1) Use the Flirc GUI to program those buttons - see if anything unusual happens

    2) Check in the harmony software that the buttons are definitely mapped to different functions

I may give digitalb0y and friendly message to see if he can help or suggest anything to do via command line if GUI option isn't viable to you (as he's very knowledgeable in those parts)

    Pleasant regards,

    Chris!

  7. Hi spazbob, welcome to the forums!

I believe you can adjust various things such as interkey delay etc (http://blog.logitech...he-help-button/)

Another test you could do is program the harmony remote as the sony bravia remote (using the model number too) that way you could even more certain it was the harmony remote (as your are trying to emulate a remote that is functioning as expected).

Thanks for posting, I do find your findings interesting,

    Pleasant regards

  8. Hi Regio, Sorry for the late reply - stuff came up,

Welcome to the forums. Unfortunately most of the information regarding user experiences of remotes and Flirc relies on people owning the remotes and reporting back. We can say that remotes should work as IR has standards etc but sometimes things don't pan out for one reason or another due to other circumstances.

I took a quick look on the amino website but it was a bit vague, do you have a model number for the remotes you are using so I could direct my search a bit more. (Also it will help other users who have the same remote to decide if Flirc is a good or bad solution for them)

    Pleasant regards,

    Chris!

  9. You can't map the same remote button press to two different commands for Flirc (as it would send both commands).

At the moment your all-off button is mapped to "s" right?

Delete the "s" key using the Flirc GUI then try adding F2 as described by Burke. Unless I've misunderstood something (have I?)

    Pleasant regards

    Chris!

  10. Hi All,

Thought i'd let you know that Jason is concerned about the "sticky key" effect sometimes observed (e.g. when a key on the remote is pressed multiple times in quick succession resulting in a lot more scrolling than anticipated).

This is due to the way Flirc currently implements how it receives a signal, Jason explains it beautifully below:

    Here is a quick tutorial:

Remotes send out a 'packet of data' in the form of light pulses. These packets are separated by each other by ~40ms-120ms. That number is constant on each remote, but varies from remote to remote.

When you press the button, the remote sends out a bunch of packets all with this fixed spacing (again, where the fixed spacing is different on each remote).

So when you press a remote button, flirc actually may sees like 30 packets. If you are rapidly pressing a button, I need to distinguish if this is you holding the button down, or if you are just pressing it rapidly.

It's not very easy to do, and I have a general concept that works for remotes, but will often feel 'sticky'.

As you can see there are significant variables in there:

As you can imagine and appreciate it will take a lot of Jason's work and (personal free) time, so your patience is appreciated - rest assured it's on his list, at the earliest after wake is perfected.

    Pleasant regards

    Chris

  11. Hi rocketpants, welcome to the Flirc forums (nice to see a familiar XBMC forum user),

I don't use windows so can't verify but back in the day it used to have windows on-screen keyboard (part of accessibility options) - that may show what keys are being pressed.

Also a great user made a little utility which I believe can test combinations (but again; I can't test it):

Or you could try mapping a different combination to open XBMC (one that could be seen in notepad or just another combination )

    Pleasant regards,

    Chris!
