Endless cycle of red ring / DFU / firmware flash

Since I received my Skip 1s in 2023, it has occasionally flashed the red ring and gone into DFU mode requiring a reflash.

However the past several days, it happens every time I press the power button. After a fresh reflash, I'm unable to use the remote even once, it immediately flashes the ring red goes into DFU mode where it automatically reflashes when I plug it in. Once it successfully flashes, the cycle begins again. 

Does this mean hardware failure or is there something more I can try?
