'unexpected error' as soon as i press record??

hello, i just bought a skip and i am trying to record from another remote. i am getting an error when i press to record. 

i have tried many different types of activity and device types and i tried resetting the remote to factory settings, tried on both pc and mac.

I design the button layout and then press record and get this error straight away. Is this a known bug or what is the way around this? thanks
