I have been using Flirc USB devices for some time.  When I started, I moved from an old Netgear streamer to Kodi so I programmed Flirc to use the old Netgear codes.  Recently I have been trying to migrate to something more future proof and have got myself all messed up.  I picked Xbox and have programmed my universal remotes to use Xbox codes and programmed the flirc accordingly.  Most of my operations work but sometimes I get stuck needing to input codes 2/3 times for them to register in Kodi properly and I am not sure what is going on.  Often times trying to turn on Subtitles causes this but sometimes even play/pause can.

I don't have any huge desire to get at the root cause here but am more looking at recommendations from people.  Do people use generic remotes (I happen to be using one from Isignia/BestBuy, but have had similar experience with other remotes as well)?  What specific remote code set do people use?  Ideally, I would program most/all of the Kodi supported buttons but I'd rather not be haphazardly picking random code sets and giving them a try.  I'd like to know it is a set others have had luck with.

Oh, I also have Marantz/Yamaha receivers, LG TVs, Tivo and Roku devices so I would prefer a remote set that doesn't conflict with any of these.

I don't get it, this all "should" be simple but every time I mess around with Flirc, I seem to get stuck on a new problem.  This time, I am walking through remote codes on my universal remote.  I am trying to pick one and program the Kodi buttons to work with it.  I've picked a dozen different ones and I seem to be able to program the majority of keys (numbers, up, down, left, right, etc...) but when I go to program "Play", I hit the play button on the remote, the remote lights up, signifying it is sending some code, the Flirc software claims it was programmed (just like every other code I successfully programmed) however, when I then hit the play button, flirc does not signify that the code was learned.  Every other key, when I press it on the remote after successful programming, flirc lights up the appropriate key (signifying it knows I pressed the button), but not on Play/Pause.  Does this function not work properly in Flirc?  I believe I am running latest and greatest everything, the application doesn't tell me there is an update for either the application, or the Flirc USB device.

I finally reproduced my Closed captions problem in the Flirc App.  When I have my remote programmed for the xbox codes and I hit the blue button, on one press, the Context menu lights up and on the next press of the same button, the Closed Caption light lights up.  It goes back and forth for the same button.  Any idea if this is an issue with the remote or an issue with Flirc?  I would not expect normal remotes would alternate the function of an individual button.

I finally found a remote code set that appears to work.  If I use the Samsung codes on my Universal remote, it seems to work for both Context and Close Captioning buttons (and all the rest).  Yay.  Now my biggest issue is a smaller form-factor One-for-all remote I have in another room, it does not appear to have this same Samsung code set.  Ug, why is nothing ever easy...?

Hopefully last post for a bit.  If anyone else is hitting anything similar, I ended up finding Netgear codes existed on both of my Universal remotes AND appear to work with all the kodi codes in Flirc.
