Smart Activities are NOT enabled by default (for now)

To get started, first enable a smart activity by selecting the appropriate letter within your activity and enabling the toggle signal.

 

The idea behind the toggle, maybe sometimes we don't want to power 'unused' devices in our previous activity when switching. For example, in our bedroom, we have all our media on Activity A, and on Activity B we have a window fan. If I want to control the Window fan, why turn off the devices in our Activity A when we switch? We can 'predict' this by looking at re-used devices in both, but making that assumption all the time would frustrate users if it weren't desired. We plan on improving the wizard to better assist users in setting up activities.

 

We currently default to selecting a 'Power Toggle' on both sides of the Power On/Off button. This was intentional, but now no longer desired for smart activities. Some devices support both On/Off and Toggle. I recommend replacing the toggles with On and Off like so.

 

To the following:

 

This gives us better state prediction so we don't get out of sync. Included with this is also the ability to see if we are doing the 'On' side or the 'Off' side visually on the remote. When we Power Up devices, we show a green animation. When we Power Down, we show a purple animation. Purple was chosen because we use red for error. The switch between activities plays back the Rainbow Animation while the remote sends all the needed signals.

Here is how it works so you can better tune the switch. Assuming you have three activities. A and B are in a smart activity and C is not.

Once we power on Activity A, we Switch to B. We walk through A's off side and send these signals if they are not in the B's off side. Then we send all the B's on signals that are not in the A's on side. Now once we hit C, nothing happens. Should you hit A once in C, we remember that the smart activity is still on for B, and we smart switch to A.

I have done extensive testing on both the remote and the simulator. I have also done good testing and see no impact to device Power. But as always, I could have bugs. 

I'm extremely grateful for everyone's patience. This was a tremendous amount of work and I had to re-design a lot of firmware. I did not want to make this release public without releasing this feature.  We have a number  of updates that will come shortly after this release.

We now have a more helpful User interface that shows you what's going to happen when you activity switch. This will be expanded upon in a future update. But now it will be less of a mystery.

 

Hi, it looks like this, or one of the recent betas, fixed the issue I was having with importing Windows configs into the macOS app. 

Many thanks for this, plus all the other recent quality of life improvements that have made the app so much better.

I'm unable to export the remote configuration in 0.9.994 due to it going to a black screen almost immediately after loading.

Hello Jason

I am still having Issues when trying to Learn a Remote.

I Design the Remote, Adding all of the required Buttons.

When I Start Learning the Buttons, the App asks me to Press the First Button, when doing so it Learns the Button fine, it then moves onto the Second Button which it also Learns fine.

However, when it asks for me to Press the Next Button, i.e. the Third Button, nothing happens and the Learning stalls, the only option is to Quit the Learning.

Any suggestions?

Maybe it’s the button on your remote. Can you try one of the previous buttons on the remote that worked?

Also, if my suggestion above does nothing, enable advanced, and export the app log, throw it in a zip, and put it here.

@jason I'm having the same issue with Build 9456.  The app opens fine for about a second and then black screen.

 

UPDATE FIXED:  Build 9468 fixed my black screen issue.  Thanks @jason

an item is not applied when selected in dropdown menu, which is - of course - annoying. :-(
Takes by the way up to 5 minutes to start, which probably has to do with internet connection.

Thanks for reporting this, it should be fixed.

I started experiencing some weird issues tonight after syncing with the latest SkipApp-0.9.994.9480-RC-x64 build.  When hitting the power button the first time, the red ring would light up and then hitting the power button again would turn on my devices as intended.  Turning off my devices would result in the power toggle command being sent twice and the devices would turn back on.  I tested this on two different remotes both with fresh batteries and got the result.  I also factory reset the remote before importing a configuration file.  The only fix that got my remote back to a normal functioning state was downgrading to SkipApp-0.9.993.9235-Beta-x64 and running the sync again.

Can you save your config and post it here?

I have not tried to use the Older Version of the App though.
