  1. Hello Everyone,

I am hoping to use the Kodi Audio Profile add-on to switch between my TV speakers and a pair of Bluetooth headphones. With the two options mapped to the channel up & down keys of my xbox media one remote.

Being a technical buffoon I'm not confident that I'll make a success of this project. Which is why I'm wondering if anyone has attempted or succeeded in this or something similar. And if they'd be prepared to help with some advice or perhaps baby-step me and others through the slightly convoluted process.

Thanks for your time and any help you can offer.

  2. I don't live in the USA so I've no idea if it'd be available on your high street. Though as these are counterfeit copies I think it's probably unlikely they'll be on the shelves at Best Buy. I imagine your only realistic option is either Amazon or ebay. Both links take you directly to the product. And it might be best to ignore the negative reviews on Amazon: they're only relevant to its performance with an XBOX.

I can't say if the remote will control your TV's or receiver's volume as I have no idea what's on the other end of your FLIRC. Mine is attached to a Cubox-i and is controlling OpenElec. The Cubox-i and the TV provide CEC through the HDMI, so I can and do control the volume with this remote. That's all I can say for certain.

    Hope this helps.

  3. I've been using the 'official' Xbox One Media remote for some time and it works perfectly with FLIRC. With just one caveat: FLIRC receives double-presses if the line of sight is too clear. Obscure your FLIRC behind the TV and everything is fine.

However, I've found that the knock-off xbox remotes (see the planet-sized image below) work even better. With no double-commands or other irritants. And they are 1/3 to 1/4 of the price.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Please ignore my whinge above. I discovered a solution to my double keypress issue when I accidentally held the Xbox One Media remote back to front. If I point the remote directly at the FLIRC then I get the usual over enthusiastic response. But if instead I point the remote 180 deg or 90 deg to either side then everything works just fine. As it does with my preferred option of obscuring the Cubox-i & FLIRC behind the TV with the FLIRC 180 deg to the remote. I am now very happy with both the remote and FLIRC. And a little embarrassed about the previous post.

Is the problem that FLIRC is just too potent for its own good?

  5. Prior to the arrival of my FLIRC and Xbox one media remote I'd been using the official XBMC Android remote application to control both XBMC on an Ubuntu / Win PC and also OpenElec on a Raspberry Pi and a Cubox-i.

I too had the endless repeat problem on the PC, Pi and Cubox-i. That was until I selected the 'Send Single Keypress' option in the application's settings. Thereafter everything has been smooth and error free. With only the slight inconvenience of thumb ache while navigating the occasional long list or large media library.

I had hoped that my new remote would seamlessly replace the smartphone - it's a pain having to boot up a phone every time you want to play a video / track - but I was disappointed to re-encounter the same problem with endless repeats. Though this time without an obvious solution: I've tried every inter key delay, and selecting and deselecting all the advanced options but find the remote is still almost completely unusable.

The application solution and the problems others have encountered suggest to me that perhaps the problem is with the Kodi/XBMC software and not the FLIRC firmware. And that until the root cause is remedied it might be an idea to circumvent the annoyance by adding a 'Send Single Keypress' option to FLIRC's settings. That's if it's technically possible. And not too much work.

Thanks for your time and hope this helps.

  6. Hello Everyone,

I've just bought a FLIRC and an Xbox One Media remote for use with OpenElec (5.0.4) on a Cubox-i. I will be recording the keys with a PC running Ubuntu 14.04.

Before I start recording it'd be nice to know if the firmware (v3.5) includes the 'Long key Press' feature request which I saw mentioned in the Support FAQ. The FAQ was dated Nov 2013 so I thought there's a good chance it might be implemented by now. I've had a good trawl through the forum but I can't tell for certain one way or another.

If it is available, how would I go about assigning two functions to the remote's play/pause button? The two functions being play (p) and pause/resume (space).

Thanks very much for your time and any help. And my apologies if this is a very FAQ.

    Thomas
