Hi! I am thinking to purchase the flirc remote but before i do this i have a few questions. I will use flirc with XBMC build around minumal ubuntu (no GUI fo OS). 1. So what i am interested in is if flirc can execute the script .sh if XBMC freezes. So something like 'irexec' which is a seperate deamon in lunux which listens for command. So basically even if XBMC freezes you can still execute f.e. reboot.sh command to restart the HTPC not dependent on XBMC. 2. Can flirc be programmed on windows and then be used on linux? tnx

Considering whether to buy a Flirc. At the moment I am using a HP USB IR Receiver. It does the job but I have to point the Harmony 300i almost directly at it before it will respond. Would the Flirc have a better range please? The device on the Harmony for controlling my Revo is Windows Media Center....are there any problems or issues I should know about with my setup and Flirc please? Many thanks for any help. :), Jason.

I think this product is totally awesome, although I am thinking about the potential of rebinding a RF or bluetooth remote. There are remotes such as the Boxee remote (which you used to be able to buy as a seperate PC accessory) that uses RF instead of IR for transmission. Is there any other solution out there that will intercept RF or potentially even Bluetooth signals and rebind them like Flirc does? If not, is this something you would consider integrating into Flirc? (not sure about the technical feasiblity) Thanks!

So I'm starting to realize the complexity of my setup when using Flirc because of lack of uniformity in keyboard shortcuts. Pretty puzzling to me that media app developers wouldn't use default shortcuts within a builtin app (WMC) for their own apps but I guess I have to work around that Anyway, I use... WMC - for pictures and music mostly because I'm not fond of music in XBMC TMT5 - playback bluray folder rips XBMC - all other video playback I currently don't see of any way to properly control all of my apps without losing most functionality from one and having to change the other. Is there a way to map XBMC functions to keypresses? The specific function I'm wanting is UpdateLibrary(database,[path]) ... I would like to press a key on my remote (and have FLIRC see it) and have the XBMC Library update itself for new content. This particular function does not have a pre-defined keyboard key. Thanks

Hi forum, Another question from a newbie... just wondering how FLIRC is different to say a packaged MCE remote with a USB IR receiver? In a lot of the forums people say they just buy a cheap remote simply to get the USB IR Receiver, then use that with their universal remote (e.g. Harmony)?. I'm sure there are benefits to FLIRC over those but just wondering if anyone can provide some quick enlightenment for me? Cheers

I have two Zboxes, two flircs. They both run OpenELEC Eden. Only one works as it should. The other lets me operate XBMC perfectly with a remote until after it resumes from a suspend. The resume itself is fine and goes back to the home screen, but the remote no longer operates XBMC. Anyone know why this should be happening. I've tried the regular firmware and the latest beta. Is there a way to suspend my htpc whether I am in xbmc or windows? I was up all night trying to figure it out. I don't want 2 buttons as I use a harmony 1100 and activities. I tried to set up a suspend shortcut with a hotkey and the same hotkey in my xbmc keymap.xml but it breaks the hotkey in both windows and xbmc completely. Also, I'm not sure if this is a flirc issue or if it's something in windows that got borked when I was messing around last night but about 1 in 3 suspends when in xbmc causes a blue screen error. Hi everyone, Got my flirc today and everything is setup fine and working, except for shutting down the xbmc pc. I have the flirc setup as a windows media centre device in the harmony config page and when using the All Off button, or the shutdown button I assigned, xbmc closes rather than shutting the pc down. I'm curious to know if anybody running XBMCbuntu (or any other Linux setup) has successfully programmed a Logitech Harmony remote for full functionality. I installed the Flirc GUI within XBMCbuntu, which seemed to record the basic functionality. I had to use the terminal command line to record advanced keystrokes. Within XBMC, however, I get almost no real functionality. Only the directional buttons "work," and that is occasional and usually scrolls in whatever direction it chooses, regardless of the actual input. I think the problem may be in the device or activity setup within the Logitech Harmony software. Obviously, neither XBMC nor Flirc have profiles within…

This is probably an stupid question but before buying I wanna know if I can use Lirc and a keyboard (connected via mini-DIN) simultaneously? The PC run Openelec for HTPC usage and Kubuntu for descktop usage (dual boot), I wanna use Lirc for the first and keyboard for the second but both will be always connected. Thanks in advance.

My general question is - Is it possible for flirc to wake up OpenELEC? But there are a few things at play: From what I've seen, it seems like shutting down/booting up OpenELEC is the most popular thing to do since boot time is insanely fast. However, my computer (ASRock Ion 330Pro) can't power on from USB (as best I can tell) so I'm wanting to put OpenELEC to sleep so it can be woken up by a button press. I had this set up in Windows 7 using EventGhost and it worked pretty well most of the time. Hi all I'm seeing some confusing behaviour when using a shortcut key to launch an application with flirc. RUnning Win7 I'm starting XBMC using CTRL-ALT-X assigned as a shortcut key in the desktop shortcut for XBMC. This is then assigned to a button on the remote. This is the same set up as described I have have a harmony 785 na dhave set it up similar to the guide here using the panasonic TV. The shortcut key works fine when I start the computer from a cold boot (is just restarted or previosly shutdown) however if the PC has gone to sleep (S3) at some stage and I wake it the shortcut key no longer works. Hello everyone, i have a ZBOX ID41+ and XBMXbuntu and want to use it with my Harmony. I followed the steps above and programmed the harmony as Panasonic TC-P65VT30. For Keymapping i used the attached pdf from Chris - thank you ! Everything seems to work. Only the play/pause-button doesn't work while playing a song. If i press the pause-button, the menu shortly disapears but nothing else. If i push the play button during playback, the song starts from the beginning. In my quest to find a wife-acceptable replacement for the long-in-the-tooth-and-no-longer-developed Beyond TV (which I have used happily since it was introduced), I've tried several other PVR solutions... Front-runner was SageTV until Google made it go bye-bye. Looking to figure out the best solution to navigate in both XBMC and MC7 (strictly for live tv). I am have created shortcut keys for both applications my issue lies in navigation within both apps.

I just received my flirc controllers today, and it seems to be working well but I have an issue and I am not sure how to address this(or it is possible). On the normal XBMC remote the number keys will act like the letters(kind of like a telephone hit 2 key three time will type a letter 'c') I am not sure how to do this with the keyboard, because when you hit the number 2 it doesn't type 'a'. How you type a letter 'a' you need to hit shift 'a' on the keyboard(example music, to navigate a long menu with a lot of artists). To translate letter presses you would need 26 characters on your remote to be able to configure every letter. I am not sure how to configure so the n…

Just wondering, bought the FLIRC mostly because its a cool idea/device and I like to support cool ideas/devices. Even though my current remote solution works well, I can see the ease of having a programmable receiver that has such broad applications. Wondering, is the IR receiver on FLIRC large/flat enough to attach an IR emitter? They are generally the size of an end of a pencil/pen (1/8-1/4 inch maybe???) and suck on with double sided tape. Just for reference I use an RF remote which sends RF signals that go to an RF receiver (through walls and such). Hi there, I've just come across Flirc (I don't actually remember how now, but that's the Internet for you!). It could be exactly what I'm looking for. I have a Mac Mini (2011) running XBMC and am using an Apple remote. The Mac will hibernate and cannot be woken other than pressing a key on the keyboard (which I have plugged in for exactly this purpose, tho I'd much rather not have it attached; I use a remote desktop connection from my MBP if I want to do anything on the Mac). Hello, I waited a while to post this because I wanted to make sure it wasn't just an issue with one computer. My Flirc works as expected on my XBMCbuntu box, but on three different MacBook Pros, it sends stuck key presses, as if I'm holding down the last key I mapped. If I unplug it and plug it back in, or plug it in to a different USB port, the stuck presses continue right away, as soon as the Flirc is rcognized. It only stops when I clear the configuration or flash new firmware. I can sometimes map two or three keys before one gets stuck again, but that's it. Hello! Received my Flirc about a week ago, and I have mapped it a few times in the XMBC setting and I seem to have issues with only some of the keys working. The remote I'm using is a programmable one provided by my cable company, but it is; Universal Electronics M1056F Rev. 3.0 The keys are very slow to respond and lag a bit, and I can only get some to work... For example, up/right will work but not left/down. That is about as far as I got as I know something isn't right due to the lag in the channel change too. I am using it with WindowsXP, and I downloaded the latest Flirc.exe (0.97) Any suggestions??? Thanks!
