Raspberry Pi System Shutdown

Hi

I am setting up two Raspberry Pi 3's to be used as media players connect to a projector in the ceiling which will be mostly inaccessible.

Can i use a Flirc IR Usb with a remote to shut down the raspberry Pi, I know it won't power up the device but I have a separate wireless power adapter to kill the power and switch it back on.

While the video is playing I want to map two Raspberry Pi terminal commands to one remote control button press.

first is

sudo supervisorctl stop video-looper

 which I have shortened to

stopvid

then the normal shut down for Raspberry Pi which is

sudo shutdown -h now

Apologies if this is posted somewhere else already.

Cheers. Richard.
