  1. Please help me with the commands if possible.
  2. Removing micro SD cards from the RPi3 in a Flirc case is easy. Simply trim 2mm of soft plastic from the Flirc base with a utility knife. There is no need to open the case or attach tape.
  3. I bought a Flirc case for a RP1 two weeks before the RP2 was released. The case had a manufacturing fault and the short screws wouldn't engage. I reported the problem here and I was sent a new case and told to just keep the defective case. I purchased screws 4mm longer than the originals for the defective case giving me a spare case. The RP2 was released so I bought one. Because the CPU of the RP2 wasn't in contact with the Flirc heatsink I attached a small aluminum heatsink and ran in a cheap plastic case. The RP3 was released so I bought one and ran it in the plastic case with a heatsink attached. The two Flirc cases were stored away unused for a year. I bought some thermal pads and decided to give the Flirc cases a try. I used Parker Chomerics Server-Grade G570 Thermally Conductive Transfer Pad- 20mm x 20mm x 1.78mm In a Flirc with the RP2. Idle temperature improved from 44 degrees to 30 degrees. After installing the RP3 in a Flirc case with 3M-467MP Thermally Conductive Adhesive Transfer Tape - 25mm x 25mm x 2.0mm idle temperature improved from 53 degrees to 37 degrees. The Flirc improved the RP2 by 14 degrees and improved the RP3 by 16 degrees compared to running in plastic cases with aluminum heatsinks. I was shocked by the improvement. Edit: For easy removal of the RP3 micro SD card use a utility knife to trim a bit of the plastic base. The trim only takes five minutes and it isn't noticeable.
  4. I think I've found a good US source for thermal pads. FrozenCPU.com carries a 25mmx25mmx2mm 3M pad for $1.75 and a 20mmx20mmx1.78mm Parker Chromerics pad for $2.00.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I received a case and four screws but no pad. I don't need you to send one though. Now I'm running a RP2 and, to run cooler, I just put a heatsink on it and used a plastic case. I'll use the Flirc for the RP3. In my area, I doubt that anyone carries thermal pads. I sure that I can source some online but I don't know how thick they should be. I think I can figure out a way to measure the gap using some type of material with a known thickness.
  6. Please help if you can. I'm ordering a RP3 for the Flirc case that I already own and love but I don't have a thermal pad. How thick is the correct thermal pad and who sells them in the US market. My RP3 order will be from Newark Elements. Do they carry the right pad?
  7. Flirc sent me a replacement case after I discovered that my case would not accept the M2.5 8mm screws. The 8mm screws worked in the replacement case but the threads of the screw holes of the first case were recessed in the bore. I thought longer screws might work with the first case so, for a few bucks, I ordered four M2.5 12mm screws online from metric screws. Now I have two functioning Flirc cases.

  10. Today I setup Flirc for my Windows 7 HTPC with Kodi to work with a Logitech Harmony 300 programmable remote control. I also have a Raspberry Pi running openELEC and I was hoping that I could use the same Flirc and remote with the RPi without too much difficulty. I discovered that setup with the Logitech remote could not have been easier. Everything is working perfectly on both the Windows and the OpenELEC machines. I plugged the Flirc into the Windows machine and installed the Flirc software for Windows. After a reboot, I launched the My Harmony application to add a device. The input for manufacturer was Flirc and the input for model was XBMC (or Kodi, both words work the same). After syncing the new device I launched Kodi and found that the Harmony remote controls Kodi easily without lag. After setting up the Windows machine I unplugged the Flirc and moved to the room with the Raspberry Pi. I installed nothing new in OpenELEC. I just plugged in the Flirc and I was able to control Kodi with the Harmony remote.also without lag. Flirc and my Harmony remote are a perfect pair.

  12. I started a thread when I found that my Flirc case came with screws that were too short. FYI, the screws were 8mm but it looks like they need to be around 12mm.
  13. I have a new Flirc case but don't have a RPi 2 yet. If I find that the case heat sink doesn't make contact I plan to adhere aluminum shims to the heat sink to make it work. It is easy to cut aluminum shims from a beer can.
  14. Please help. I received my Flirs case today and discovered that the 8mm screws that were included are too short to engage any threads. I can leave off the Flirc's base and simply screw my RPi B+ to the top of the case but once the base is added the screws don't match. I think the screws need to be around 11-12mm in order to engage the threads.
