  1. Received my Flirc yesterday and so I set this up last night, everything works great. I can map any button on the TV remote to whatever keystroke combination I want and then EventGhost picks up the keystrokes and causes XBMC to do what ever it is I mapped those keystrokes to. It took a bit of trial and error but I have even gotten the sleep/wake to work correctly, I use the Shutdown menu option within XBMC to cause the PC to go to sleep, then I can switch back to normal TV with the remote or else just put the TV on standby. I have then mapped the STB power button on the remote to cause the PC to 'wake up' and it resumes still within the XBMC Shutdown menu, exactly the same point that it was when I sent it to sleep, so I just hit the 'backup' button on the remote to close this and fall back into the main XBMC screen. This is a great combination and very flexible, I could even set this up so that I could control other apps (think iTunes or whatever) from the same remote control as EG will let me change what any remote button does through a bit of simple scripting.
  2. @pope5 Have you seen this, I came across it the other day: www.analysir.com/blog It is a project that has developed software to record IR signals in a meaningful way. Hope it helps :)
  3. I have a Samsung 39F5500 smart tv with a small (Atom based) Acer Windows 7 PC running XBMC, HDMI from PC to TV. I can fully control XBMC using the Bluetooth keyboard/mouse of course and I also use these for general web browsing etc. The Samsung TV remote has the capability to also control a STB/DVD but to configure this you have to pick a brand and model (e.g. Sony Blueray player), there is no option to pick a device such as MCE keyboard or HTPC. I want to be able to fully control XBMC from the Samsung TV remote so that I do not have to use the wireless keyboard/mouse and can do everything from turning the TV on and waking up the PC to watching TV/Movies from XBMC and closing it all down by just using the Samsung TV remote. I bought and tried connecting a cheap 'PC Remote' but it seems to generate keystrokes and so whilst XBMC will respond to it, it is just too easy to hit a wrong key and cause another Windows app to launch or the desktop to appear or something else to mess up my video and cause me to resort to the keyboard/mouse again. I tried using EventGhost with this remote so that I could block these unwanted keys but it seems that EG cannot 'see' the remote keystrokes as Windows captures these 'keyboard' inputs before they even get to EG. I then tried using an old DVD remote with the IR received from the 'PC Remote', but got absolutely nothing at the PC end, I think the 'PC Remote' handset and IR receiver must be matched in some way so that they only work together. So my plan is to use Flirc and EventGhost together, (I have just ordered a Flirc today so I hope this will work!) as follows... Set up the Samsung TV remote to also control a DVD player (choose Sony or whatever works best). Using Flirc, map the TV remote buttons for Play, Pause, FF, Rew, Menu, Info, etc. to 'unused' keyboard codes (e.g. Ctrl/Alt/F1, Ctrl/Alt/F2, etc.) This will allow me to continue to use the Bluetooth keyboard/mouse for browsing etc. without any interference I hope. I realise that I might have an issue with the Menu button as this will probably still control the TV Menu, but there are a few other buttons on the remote that I can probably use. Using EventGhost, map the above key combinations to the specific XBMC functions I want. If anybody is using this or a similar configuration then I would appreciate your comments as to any issues I should be aware of.
