    Multi-remote (non-harmony)

    Symptoms
Only some keys work with FLIRC

    Cause

We're not sure, if you have this issue please let us know what profile your remote is programmed with (when trying to use FLIRC) so Jason can get more remotes support by FLIRC.

    Solution
Try and find the manuel for your remote (google-ing it is often the best solution) and try a TV profile to control FLIRC (such as Samsung/Sony/Panasonic etc)

I'll investigate the other issues later as i'm a little busy until thursday. I'll try each of presets and compile issues.

    Cheers for the push!

I haven't got a computer in front of me but i think delete on the keyboard preset is actually backspace.
    Another one to fix.

    Dont mind the move, pseudo.

Have now resorted to using the Full Keyboard controller to get around some of the issues.

However there is NO backspace key (somewhat fundamental)? So with the XBMC controller I get "back" but no "context menu" and with the full keyboard I cannot get the "back" function but can program the context menu.

It is a little unclear to me what the "parent Directory" button on the XBMC controller is supposed to be - first I assumed it was the Home button, but it acts like the "back" function when in files lists.

Is it possible to program some functions with XBMC controller and then switch to the full keyboard and add some others, or visa versa? And then will "Save configuration' save both sets of keys?

  8. Chris! added a post in a topic XBMC controller Issues [BUG and FEATURE suggestions]

    Just to reiterate:
The XBMC preset in FLIRC GUI should correspond to this list:
    http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Global_Keyboard
(Some of them appear not to - haven't tested this myself yet)

and key functions (relatively) fundamental to XBMC that are missing include:
Home menu = ESC (I think back and previous directory are both mapped to backspace, perhaps merge those two and create a home menu button)
    Context menu = C

Also I think the "skip track" buttons (second row down at the very right) should be mapped to [ and ] to skip chapters (waiting on results from tis thread though: )

Good to hear. Then I assume, like you, that the XBMC pre-set on FLIRC has a few bugs in it.

I'm gonna move this thread to feature suggestions so Jason can track it a bit better.
(If you want it moved back to here (general questions) - just let me know)

XBMC controller Issues [BUG and FEATURE suggestions]
Just received my Flircs and starting to program them.

    Have some issues:
1 the right arrow key does not do anything
2 Mute button brings up Info or OSD depending on where in XBMC I am
    3. Parent Directory button acts as Back, Back button goes to home screen
    4. power button does nothing
    5 OSD button does nothing.

Have reprogrammed the unit twice with the same results
Am using the recommended Panasonic TV on a Harmony 525
All the keys work as expected from the keyboard.

Is there a reason the Contect menu is not included in the XBMC controller?
WHich key is the Flirc using for Mute as it is not listed on the XBMC wiki keyboard list

I'm just tweaking my newly arrived FLIRC now. First, let me say that the product is AMAZING. Second, I agree with all of the above posts. I used eskro's suggestion (THANK YOU!!) for mapping a Samsung TV but for some reason I have a few repeat keys on my Harmony One. It would be nice to know which ones they are and just reassign to another unused function in the Harmony software.

  12. Chris! added a post in a topic Have a testing window that just shows when a signal is received

This is a good suggestion. Then we could isolate the problem at the remote (if there was a problem) instead of having to go round all the steps.
Not sure how easy it is too implement...

I'd love to be able to 'reuse' my TV remote (LG MKJ39170805) to control XBMC. To do that, I just set the remote to "DVD" and try to record keys.
The strange thing is that some keys either don't seem to have a function on the DVD mode or Flirc has problems receiving them.
It would be nice to have a simple window that just show the current IR event/frequency/... being received to make sure that the buttons I'm trying to push actually emit something.

    Cheers,

Thanks for getting back to me.
I'll give the keyboard setup a try.

I really like the Flirc. I have been wanting something like this for a while. I feel it gives us more control of our HTPC's.

Thanks, hearing about new stuff at CES is something i always enjoy.

Pretty curios to know what the original default remote protocol was. I want to perfect this guy, and it's been quite the challenge to make it work across all the flavors of remotes....but I'm going to fucking do it.

No problem! Glad I can help in anyway...

Switching to the Samsung setting seemed to have really helped the IR as well. I can point it in the general direction and not directly at the FLIRC, and the reception is great. Didn't change anything else with the remote so it has to be the settings.

    Hi boristheblade,

Welcome to the forums. I think at the moment the XBMC preset is to get people started as Jason is working hard on features (wake from sleep and other nifty functions) so hasn't made a comprehensive preset for XBMC (yet).

I've been led to believe that "[" and "]" (i.e. open square bracket and close square bracket), are the shortcut for next and previous chapter (http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=905337&postcount=151)

I think you can just flip to keyboard preset and just program those two keys (without having to re-do the rest).

Do you mind giving it a quick test and reporting back?
Also, how are you finding FLIRC in general?

    Regards

    p7

(p.s. I liked the thread you started about CES on forum.xbmc.org - threw up some interesting stuff.)

    [XBMC] Chapter skip using Flirc
I setup my Flirc for XBMC and everything works good except chapter change. All I see is 30 second skip. Is there away to get chapter change setup for XBMC or do I need to change it to keyboard?

    Thanks

Glad it's now working - hope you're enjoying FLIRC.

I have a harmony 300 (same as the 300i but not shiny - as a result cheaper). This is set as a panasonic tv for FLIRC control (as I have a samsung tv).

I like it, though the other models have more features.

Thanks for reporting back - helps us to help other users :)

    Thanks very much

I might need to invest in a fancy Harmony remote at some point... any suggestions?

Shouldn't cause any issues, so far we've advicing people to use a different make of tv preset to control flirc to the model of tv they actually own.

Let us know how it goes.

Ok I can give it a try.

The remote is also mapped with my Panasonic TV on the TV setting... Will it cause issues if I preload the DVD or VCR setting with the Samsung?

Should I just preload it with another Panasonic device to be sure?

    Thanks

Hmm. I remember a similar thread.

This forum user was having a similar problem and reprogrammed a similar remote to another setting to control flirc.

I googled your remote control and came up with this PDF guide:
    http://www.metrocast.com/guides/MetroCast_Remote_OCAP_M1056.pdf
on page 61 there is some codes for samsung tv's. Perhaps you could give one of those a try to see if it alleviates the issue.

Nope, they don't have to be programmable. Any other remote should work fine. You can even cycle through DVD/AUX/TV to get different remotes as those are most likely set as different devices. I'm not quite sure yet. If you give another remote a shot, that might narrow it down.

If you run through the GUI minimalist view two times, do you get, "button already exists" error? Or can you record the same button a couple times.

The "GO" button needs to disappear on the other windows, it only works on the minimalist window. I will update that in the next release.

I have a couple others... but do they have to be programmable? The other remote I have just has other inputs (TV, AV, etc).

In the Flirc utility, I tried mapping it on the MINIMALIST setting, and I noticed when you press the GO button it walks you through each button for mapping. I don't get the same thing with the XMBC setting. If I press the GO button it does nothing, and I have to click on each individual key with the mouse then map it with the key I want on the remote. This doesn't seem to be consistent.

Tried new batteries and got the same results.

Also, I tried reprogramming and using the minimalist setting... and I get the same results. Some keys work, so don't. For the ones that do work It seems you really have to hold it for a second for it to get it going, then they will be more responsive (eg. scrolling up).

I'm wondering if it is the firmware? It seems odd that it would "partially" work but not 100%.

In the utility, it says I have Flirc v0.96, and in the bottom left corner about the ERASE button it says Firmware v1

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks
